David Mazer Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 How many of you use hearing protection with the dogs? Our full size Labradoodle can't seem to keep the Mutt Muffs on her funny shaped head. And I'm not sure they really do much anyway. But I am concerned about the noise level. I've tried Mutt Muffs on two dogs without success. I finally just stuck large foam ear plugs in his ears and held his ears closed gently for a few seconds until they expand. He seems to have no problem with them. Quote
RocketAviator Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 We frequently fly with our Doberman she has no issue with getting in the plane. I never thought of leaving the flaps down, I'll adop that idea. I don't restrai Her at all and don't have ear muffs. I would like to try ear muffs if anyone has a set they want to get rid of! She has a couple times when in rough air wanted to climb in my lap.... You can imagine on an IMC approach this is not a good thing, thankfully she is highly trained and quickly returns to her seat when commanded. She does not seem to like high altitudes, anything above 11000 seems to cause her to breath quite heavy, so I stay at 11 or lower when we have the Mutt as I affectionately call her. Now if someone knows how to strap on an oxygen mask to the Mutt... We need to talk...lol Quote
Mike A Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 How many of you use hearing protection with the dogs? Our full size Labradoodle can't seem to keep the Mutt Muffs on her funny shaped head. And I'm not sure they really do much anyway. But I am concerned about the noise level. Both of our labs wear the Mutt Muffs. We got them used to wearing them around the house by feeding them treats galore to keep them on. Periodically the brown one will shove her head between my wife and my shoulders in flight and knock them back off, but the one job my wife has is to put them back on (if she's even awake). We put one of the overhead straps right behind their brows and the other on the very backside of their head. Having the bottoms of their ears hang out is not a big issue, and if we feel like it we will shove the tip back into the mutt muff. Just make sure the ear is closed (laid over) over the ear canal and both are covered by the muffs. Quote
Tummler Posted March 25, 2015 Author Report Posted March 25, 2015 Thanks everyone for your responses. Looks like I can narrow my search down to a 1982 or later J model. Assuming it fits my proportions, that plane looks perfect for our mission. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 Now if someone knows how to strap on an oxygen mask to the Mutt... We need to talk...lolCan't you get a normal muzzle and just attach an air tube? Just make sure the dog stays cool since it can't pant. Quote
