kilobravo3 Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 I have an Stec 50, and the Alt hold indicator light has stopped working. The altitude hold is working properly, it is just the indicator light that isn't functioning. I spoke with my local avionics shop, and they said S-tec (or whoever they are now), stated there is nothing to field repair and that the unit must be sent back to S-tec for repair. The worst part was when they told me S-tec was going to charge $800. I realize airplanes are expensive (having just replaced my engine), but $800 to replace a light bulb is just insane. Do I have any other options here? I am not paying $800 for a lightbulb, so if I don't have any other choices, I'll just fly the airplane without the indicator. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 My STEC 50 GPSS switch lights are burnt out, both HDG and GPS lights, I've ask the avionics guys if they can fix, but they haven't gotten back to me yet...I better prepare myself. Quote
John Pleisse Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 The STC is A/C serial # specific. They have you by the nads. You need that light and aural annunciator. I have had full elevator deflection against trim on an Stec 30. It's fine VFR, but you couldn't have it IMC. Or find an avionics guy who is not an Stec dealer to fix it for you. Probably a direct solder point to the board. When you hook it back up, that light should be connected to your panel dimmer. Likewise, the aural alert to your audio panel. Quote
