So I started chasing ratings now that I have had my 201 for a couple of years now... On June 22nd I finally earned my Instrument Airplane Rating. I used N86BF. On August 29th I got my sUAS Remote Pilot Certificate On August 31st I earned my Commercial Airplane Single Land. I used N86BF On September 11th I added MultiEngine Land to my Commercial privileges removing the multi VFR Only restriction. I used a PA44, but I used N86BF to get to KGKY for the Checkride. On October 16th I added Rotorcraft Gyroplane Commercial to my Commercial privileges. I used a MTO Sport Gyroplane, but I again used N86BF to get me to KSRC for the checkride. The Mooney 201 has made time building great, and has pulled me through or to the checkrides..

I'm curious on which one people feel gives a better understanding of your airplane. I have about 20 hours in my Mooney, and can't say that I'm 'comfortable' with it yet. Knowing that an instrument rating will help with 'precision' while a commercial rating pushes the pilot/airplane unit towards the edges of the envelope; which one would you conquer first? The current plan is to get both...but looking for input.

Glare shield lights work great. Instrument lights not working other than manifold pressure, TIT and RPM. Any help to get the others working would be great. I am not sure if they all are lit since they haven't worked since I bought plane but I know at least the GI 106A is supposed to be lit but doesn't work. Perhaps a wiring issue? Has to replace 5a to get the TIT, RpM and Mp lighting on. Plane is a 231.

Anyone know where one can get the 201 style instrument hole covers, the ones that are usually black and flush mounted in the hole. Thanks. Bus. PS- See attached hole cover, but w/o the jacks.

Hey mooneyspacers, Im selling this clean working VSI. Part number 7000-31and it is TSO'd. My instructor and I had planned some IPC work this weekend and decided to meet up at KAFW Friday morning. Due to the clag (and probable ice) it just wasn't going to happen. Instead I gave Bill down at "MotionAir" a call to see if he had some open time. He did, so I jumped in the car and headed down to Midway (KJWY). After a gournd brief on the training device (sim) we started off with an easy LNAV to RWY 36, nice way to get in some local practice without picking up white stuff. Bill set up local conditions so we broke out about 1200-1300 and I could just see the PAPI ahead so we continued to landing. Well, I did pretty good and was not as rusty as I thought. THen I learned that Bill can have a bit of a mean streak as he set me up with this thing at Martin State (KMTN): VOR/DME OR TACAN Z RWY 15. Wow! This thing had me really working it. It is a DME arc with stepdowns all the way to MDA. As I got close to R-060 I noticed was off on the arc a bit and told Bill that I'd be looking for the runway environment out the right side of the windshield. He said I might try the passenger window, as he just saw the lights go under the wing. Doh! I guess I was a bit off on the radial also. Missed approach is a climbing right turn into another DME arc! That one worked better for me and after a circut in the hold we finished up with a debrief. All in all a nice way to get some practice on a day that I'd otherwise be grounded. < edit> btw - I use the term "mean streak" with high regard. Just thought I'd throw that in since voice inflection can't really inferred.
