601RX I will try that tomorrow also. How do you "back the gain down a little", where do I adjust that?

Ok guys it is installed and working but I need some real world flight experience to help with the system. I have the PC wing leveler, Accu track II NAV and Accu Flite HDG system. What is YOUR sequence of activation and what have you found that works with the system. I am going out for a flight tomorrow with the sole purpose of playing with the system again to try and learn it. My sequence so far has been: 1. Activate PC and trim for wings level 2. Activate the Accu Trak when on course but it seems to roam and does not really hold any kind of course. (BUT) I was reading more tonight and it says I should set my AccuFlite to the heading that it is tracking and activate the Accuflite system so I will try that tomorrow. The Accuflite system alone seems to S turn a lot around the heading is that normal? Please help..... Tim

Edo Aire DG coupled with Brittain Accuflite
tsuttles replied to tsuttles's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Thanks guys I think I found the problem but will not see until I test fly tomorrow. I went over to the hanger this morning and pulled the DG out. I noticed when the DG was tilted forward it no longer worked but when I tilted it back and the gears were able to return to their caged position the DG functioned properly. So I carefully remounted the DG and everything on the ground was fixed. I will know more tomorrow after the test flight but I know how delicate those instruments are and something as simple as that could definitely be the issue. If the DG does not function to 100% tomorrow it will be pulled and sent to Jerry in Tulsa as they have already promised to make it right. Another example of their awesome customer service. -
Edo Aire DG coupled with Brittain Accuflite
tsuttles replied to tsuttles's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I will check the screws tomorrow but they are the ones that were sent with the DG. Currently only the heading bug system is functional because the avionics guy was going to wire the accutrak system on Monday to my GPS and NAV2. The PC system works beautifully in both direction and in smooth air holds a wings level very nice. By what you guys are saying it seems to be on the DG side. So tomorrow when I drop the DG out if it were the screws then at minimum the heading bug should rotate 360 degrees. Am I thinking about that right? -
ok guys quick question for all you experienced with the Brittain autopilot stuff. I recently had the accuflite and accutrak system added to my stock PC system. The edo aire DG with heading bug that is coupled with the system seems to be malfunctioning and I want to know if it is the Brittain side or the DG side. As a disclaimer the DG came straight from Brittain with the system and was tagged as overhauled and return to service. Problems include: 1. Heading Bug will not travel 360 degrees, it has a spot of about 15 degrees straight up that it will not travel through 2. It has massive progression of about 10-15 degrees over the course of 2mins 3. When you engage the accuflite system it initiates a turn but ignores the heading bug and turns right past it and just continues the turn Thoughts? I have spoken with Brittain but wanted to hear from the flyers of the system because I am new to the system. Tim

Have you found a way with the AccuTrac to have HDG hold with the 430W since you don't have the Accuflite system. I was thinking if it was following the 430 commands why could you not use OBS and set a heading until you were cleared to proceed on course. Just thinking out loud...

Thanks everyone, I have seen the ebay listings and are watching them closely. The DG adapter seems to be the hard part to find. The altitude hold units on ebay just be careful because they don't have the actual control module face nor the servo that Brittain says they are building new. Although it does not make me feel warm and fuzzy that Sky has been waiting for 3 years.... Tim

Looking for a few pieces that may be in a dirty dusty box in the back of your hanger. I am sure their are a lot of people looking for the same parts. Brittain Accuflite complete system or parts: Brittain DG adapter BI 818 P/N 280-003-500 Brittain Altitude Hold complete system or parts BI-704 P/N 11300 which is made up of P/N 12000 and 11674 Any ideas of leads of who might have some of these parts please help. I have been on the waiting list at Brittain for some time and I am in weekly contact with Ceci and Jerry. Any help much appreciated!!

I recently ordered the LH section from the panel to the cargo area. Price of plastic 468.00, price of shipping 98.00, really!!! I cancelled the order when plane plastics emailed me and ask for my credit card number so they could charge me more for shipping after the transaction was complete. I am going to try and repair with plastifix and just take my time.

Oh and if you have the accuflite system control box that would be great also...

Lood, All I can add is know your mission in flying and determine how long you think you will keep the aircraft. I am currently in the same boat as you. I have the PC system currently but I fly IFR and I am getting tired of hand flying anything over an hour. Not to mention if it is that bumpy IFR having to load approaches, communicate... blah blah blah... I am trying to decide weather to piece together a Brittian system that could take per the Tulsa 3years!! to assemble all the parts necessary. I fly M20C so I also know that 17K for the stec that can be installed by March is hard to swallow unless I keep the aircraft for a really long time and get my money out of it. Which I love the bird so that is not far fetched. Good Luck and let me know if you have any strokes of genius over the subject because I am racking my brain on the daily especially knowing that Stec prices increase the beginning of 2014.

Brittain Autopilot Syetem For Sale
tsuttles replied to N601RX's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Is this unit still for sale? -
CONGRATS!!! Now go fly somewhere and share your passion with others. When you get some hours under your belt take a kid flying. I took my nephews for their first GA flight and you could not wipe the smile off their faces....

Try the Brompton brand also in your search I seen a Mooney guy at Sun n Fun this year with one and have been on the search ever since. The only bad part is they are a little pricey but what is new in Aviation. It is the only brand that I know of that folds where the cranks is on the inside and keeping it from marking your carpet with grease.

Hey Bob by the way I was looking at your location and I grew up in Morganton now live in Raleigh and was actually just up there this week. My parents still live there and I fly into MRN quite often I would love to see your bird and exactly how you have the 696 mounted if you are around the airport one day I am coming up.
-
Wow great panel Bob!! I will look in the C tomorrow and see if I have room on the right side. I have the old glove box area but I just mounted the UBG 16 engine monitor in there but I can always move that if it will fit the dimensions.
-
I get what you are saying DS and since I do more than fly around the patch and actually use the aircraft for long cross country it is necessary to stay up with the tech. I mean sure I could use the sectional and plotter for some pilotage skills but I also choose not to hunt with a black powder rifle or drive a Model A Ford....
-
I guess I need to find out a better mounting option for the 696 and keep it around. I used to have the iPad on my thigh for IFR flying and the 696 on the yoke but I am always cautious looking up and down so much looking at charts to prevent the bad word (spatial disorientation). I had the 696 mounted on the pilot yoke and moved it today to try out the iPad on the pilot yoke and like it better since all I have to do is move my eyes and not my head. Where do you guys have your 696 mounted?
-
DS maybe you are right I should be more specific.. Garmin 696 vs. ForeFlight Pro.
-
Question for you guys out there... I have a 696 that I am thinking of selling due to the subscription cost and the iPad I have seems to do everything it can do and sometimes better... What is your opinion on the subject. I will tell you the 696 is wired to the 430W and is cool to see it in 2 places but with the map not being current I don't use it for navigation. What are your thoughts?? I am thinking the 696 was GREAT when it came out but the iPad had not really hit the market yet... Tim

Thanks everyone I am going out to the hanger today and dropping those panels to see if I have a plug to change to increase the freq of that one strobe. If not I will just have to deal with the difference in the blink.
-
Does anyone know how and if you can adjust the frequency at which the strobes on the wing tips flash. I have one that flash 3 times and the other wing tip blinks 1 time.... How could I adjust that?
