  3. I am flying a 201 equip with a 430, 496 with a WX subsciption. I have approx. 1000 hours time with a newly IFR ticket. The last 25 hours were file IFR 70% of the time in VFR or MVFR conditions to practice. When flying in IMC I don"t file when there is "multiple or scatered CB" but I do file when there is "few CB". My question is the following: Can or should I trust WX especially since information is somewhat 15 minutes late, or should I buy a storm scope? Also should I fly in red zone if there is no lightnings, airmet and sigmet...?

  7. The Passenger side of my Mooney 201 fuel tank is contaminated with water as soon as the airplane is outside under the rain for a while. Can it be the seal of the fuel cap? Where can I get new seals? Thank You

  11. Any thoughts on getting rid of charts and terminal procedures with and IPAD/Foreflight and a second IPAD as back-up?
  12. I have been using XM with foreflight for a few month and it has been working well since version 4.4 of IPAD. Two questions: 1- Is the informations up dated faster on ADS-B. 2- Did someone try ipad/ADS-B weather section in Canada. Thank You
  13. I am a new IFR rated pilot flying a 201. Equipment is a 430, VOR, ILS, 496, XM on my ipad and the 496, autopilot couple to 430. My experience is approx. 10 hours filing IFR in VFR or MVFR. Living in North East. Beside avoiding ice and tunderstorm can I fly in any type of clouds? Can i trust my XM? Should I file if I am not sure to be on top?
  14. I am flying a 201 with a new IR licence. I am living in east cost and fliying mainly in the east. I feel the need of a turbo to fly over bad weather. When I read about turbo everyone says that to fly in the east a turbo is needless but never mention the advantage to fly high to overcome bad weather. Does it make sence?
  15. This is great, I am a new member of this association and I get valuable and professionnal answers to my questions faster than a strike. What a good forum... Thank you to all...
  16. I am a newly IFR licenced pilot flying a 201, previoutly flying a float plane (1000 hrs). My 201 is equiped with a G430, a G496 witk XM, an electric an vacum DG. To fly IFR in general is it better to get a stormscope, an ADSB or my XM do the job. Also is it possible to get a radar at a reasonable investment.
  17. Thank Steve. I will stop by at Exuma.

  20. Quote: moodychief Christian, Have you ever learned to read skew-t charts? They are only updated every 12 hours but give the upper air soundings from the weather balloons. I look at the soundings for reporting stations along my flight to get an idea of what is happening in the atmosphere. I usually go to the UNISYS skew-t map site. You can not only tell the tops and bottoms you can also interpret where the layers are.
  21. I am a newly ifr rated pilot from Canada flying in the state once in a while. I am flying a M20J. In canada we used mostly Nav Canada for weather information. There is every thing needed for ifr flying related to weather. Calling fss is to confirm the weather or insurance purposes leaving a trace. In the state I used ADDS AViation digital data service (NOAA's) since I am not allowed to use Duats (Canadian pilot licence). My question is the following: Where can I get the floor and the top of clouds for a specific region? Any answer would be greatly appreciated. I am a french Canadian; my written english might be a bit off.
  22. I own a Mooney M20J. I am newly IFR rated from Quebec, Canada. My problem is that my Mooney is not equiped enough to fly more advanced IFR. Missing is deice, stormscope and a bit more redondancies. I am flying down to the Caribben in two weeks for 16 days; I will try to fly the more i can with IFR flight plan but mostly in VFR or marginal VFRcondition. Looking forward to trade my M20J for an Encore. Monney matters for now.
