  1. Yes Jetdriven, I discussed this with a CFI friend of mine and he said the same thing that it would cause detonation. He also discussed how to recover from detonation from experience (full rich mixture, level out, pull some power back). I think my OEM gauge is not all that accurate on chts. I will definitely check out the plugs and cylinders. thanks
  2. Thanks Swingin, I definitely did not have the mixture set right from the get go. My high cht was near instantaneous do to excessive leaning. I don't get to high DA very often but will add your procedure to a check list in the future and give it a try.
  3. Information I found for a 20F before cancelling Order Louder exhaust sound Requires disassembling at annual for inspection and lubing joints Tuned for 11K' with possible 2-3 kts increase Increase in climb performance Increase in fuel burn below tune altitude
  4. Attached is my cht temp gauge, the upper side of the green is 450 degrees. Red line from 450 to 500 degrees.

  6. My t/o was 300lb below max useful load. I have no plenum (doghouse), baffling is original but not in bad condition. Do have an oil cooler mod and really haven't seen a big improvement since installed. If 8 qts would not reduce chts, as stated above, then neither would the oil cooler location. Higher mixture provided the best bang for the buck. As soon as I increase the mixture to more rich the chts came down. I have never had chts below 400 with the cowl flaps closed.
  7. The procedure I use to set the mixture was from taking a mountain flying course that mooney setup in Col Springs several years ago. To set the mixture was just to pull until it coughed then a couple of turns in until it ran smoothly. That was considered as max power.
  8. Home is near the Norman, OK area. Elevation is about 1200'. I wondered about on the accuracy of the gauges. They are all OEM. I can get the chts at 400 at level flight with the cowl flaps slightly open. Don't have a fuel flow monitor.
  9. Thats pretty much what I did, higher airspeed and richer mixture after takeoff. Really didn't notice the EGT setting on takeoff and wonder if it was straight up as you mentioned. Outside temp was about 7 C. My 20F always runs in the upper green on cyl temp. I had about 6.5 qts of oil. I think next time I will make sure the oil level is at least 7 to 8 qts. I'm wanting to get a better method in order to land at an 8400' airport elevation.
  10. I flew to a 7K' altitude airport and when used the max power method on take off by pulling the mixture. The mixture was leaned out on rollout with full power until it coughed then a couple of turns to rich until it sounded smooth. After leaving the runway then up to about 1K' for a minute of two I noticed I my cylinder temp was about 475-500 degrees. Normally it would be 435-450 degrees. I stopped climbing and checked to make sure the cowl flaps were open (they were), and built up some airspeed to cool. After a minute or two no big reduction in cyl temp so I set the mixture to more rich. The cyl temp then came down. Anyone used this max power mixture setting and experienced high cyl temps?
  11. Problem is that most flaring tools have the smallest OD of 3/16. This tubing is 1/8".
  12. Anyone know where a person can buy a replacement pressure line that runs from the firewall to the intake cyclinder? Mine is about 24" but really only needs to be about 18". My line is 1/8" aluminum.
  13. I took a trip the last few days and was able to get some radar updates on my Foreflight up to 9K'. I noticed an app called Cell Phone Coverage Map used for Ipad or iPhones rated the best coverage areas on a map. I was thinking if a pilot drew his flight plan over the best coverage areas while in flight, weather, etc. could be updated. I wandered if anyone may of tried this approach to in-flight cell coverage?
  14. Yes, runs to the #3 cylinder. Need to look a little closer and the condition looks like all is connected. I see from Jose's comments, it should be a leak since the outside pressure is around 28 inches and I can't get below 25 inch. My plane can fly at 15 inch (vacuum range) manifold pressure and keep level flight. That would be a pretty good leak.
  15. Yes, it looks like it works on the high side, like during engine take off but when I pull the power it is not falling below 25 inch Hg. I looked on the engine side and the pressue line looks OK, not broken. It does fit the clogged line possiblity. I'm thinking the manifold pressure dial is like a barometer sensor and the line to the cyclinder is like the line to the vent. Never had any problems with this before.
  16. My manifold pressure will not come down after I pull the power. Anyone have to replace this instrument or know of a repair?
  17. Say 2 fast Mooney planes are head to head, enclosing at a combined speed of 450 mph, or .125 miles per second, or 660 feet per second. What appears to be a little dot about 2 miles away, you have 16 seconds to identify and take evasive maneuvers.
  18. I have a mode s traffic avoidance system; I was amazed at all the traffic that was out there when I turned it on. Over 1/2 that are near me I don't get calls on from ATC. It looks overwhelming to manage at times. I fly over 600nm all the time and have had close calls in the middle of no where to high traffic areas. My biggest worry are those that don't have a transponder or don't fly with flight following or a flight plan. When pilots of both aircraft are watching its always better than one.
  19. Anyone have a used workable voltage regulator OECO 20082? Send me an email if so. Thanks
  20. I've owned my 68 F since 98 and thought of upgrading to a J but the useful load was not in the J. I have a useful load over 1050 lb. An older F is cheaper and will allow you the budget to upgrade on the latest avionics, etc. Most of the Js I looked at needed updated avionics.
  21. Are there still 20F stock one piece windshields out there?
  22. How much was the cowl/window mod from Lopresti?
  23. I may be interested in a 201 windshield mod for my F and may be an extra. Send me details of the offer if it will be made available.
  24. My F model has a cool air blow line to the engine driven fuel pump. I was wandering if the 201 has cool air pointed to the engine driven fuel pump?
