  1. Congrats to Bryan Painter for submitting the picture of the week on AvWeb. http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/potw/PictureOfTheWeek_206359-1.html
  2. Quote: Bennett I suggest the JPI 830 unit - Very comprehensive, and truly useful. Good value for the extensive readouts - CHT EGT (all cylinders) Fuel Flow in Gal/Hr, MPG, Fuel Used, Fuel Remaining, Fuel Requied to Next Destination/Waypoint,Voltage, OAT, Oil Temp, RPM, Manifold Presure, and more. Great for setting either ROP or LOP.
  3. Quote: DaV8or Just wondering if anyone has made, bought, or had made a new glareshield to fit a vintage panel. I have the stock floppy vinyl thing, but would rather have something rigid that I can attach lighting underneath. I can't be the first guy. Lots of options for the 201 style panel, but vintage... ?
  4. Quote: garytex Idaho has a series of backcountry airports. The state has a listing thereof. Mainly they are used for access to remote hunting areas, several are near streams, and draw fishermen.
  5. Quote: Becca So Byron and I have starting talking about spring and summer camping trips and have been roaming various internet forums about places that we could take our plane, maybe our dog (not required) and camp, hike, swim, raft. I am ok with completely backcountry. Byron likes access to running water and/or electricity. But really, we are just looking for ideas.
  6. Quote: aerobat95 Here is a quick question for you....can you get touchup paint in a can? Basically a custom spray paint can?
  7. Quote: edgargravel Well done. Better than the solution I have been using on the other side with a cut away quart oil container and a series of pour spouts connected together.
  8. Quote: omega708 Anyone had SWTA upgrade their vintage panel to a 201 style? How did it turn out, and was it worth the $$? Any other suggestions for getting rid of the "shotgun" panel in my 67 M20C? Thanks!
  9. Quote: georgeb You mean like this? It's not easy...took 8 months, and most of it was looking for parts. This is my '70 'E' to 'J'. Pretty much a short J. Factory parts are no longer available. Especially in the ducting and sheetmetal work for the cooling. Good Luck
  10. I've got an old pair of Lightspeed 20XLs and have enjoyed them for about 10 years now. They are cracked in several places and have been bandaged together and returned to service until I decide to shell out money for another pair as good as these. Lately they started making an intermittent buzz in one ear so I called Lightspeeds customer support to see how much it would cost to have them rebuilt. The friendly voice on the line said they would repair them free of charge and pay shipping both ways or they would give me a trade in allowance of $250 towards a new set of Sierras or Zulus. I don't recall how much I paid for these headsets about a decade and some 800-900 flight hours ago, but if I can still get $250 trade in on another Lightspeed product with awesome customer support...I'm there. My old pair is on its way to Lightspeed and my new Sierras will soon be under the tree. Another pirep to follow.

  12. The balloon fiesta in Albuquerque is going on through next Sunday if you have the time. I just got back from there yesterday and had a great time. Double Eagle airport (AEG) is only 10 minutes from the balloon park. There is also an aerial tram on Sandia Peak which takes you to the highest restaurant in North America @ 10, 385'.
  13. Quote: peott I wish I had time to sell it rather than parting it out but I just don't.
  14. Spinner, bulkhead and filler plates removed from 65 E model with Hartzell 2 blade prop. $100 plus UPS shipping.
  15. I had my plane soundproofed ten years ago while redoing the interior. I used approx. 5/8" thick black foam material on the advise of my mechanic. He showed me a simple burn test of several samples using a lighter. Some of the materials actually caught fire and billowed black smoke while others would not even ignite. I don't have any way to check dB levels, but I did notice the cabin is just a little less noisy and is warmer in the winter. I didn't soundproof the most important place (firewall) and I suspect that is where the majority of my noise is coming from. I may redo the firewall in the future when I get spare time to tackle the tedious task.
  16. Quote: jelswick All three here as well. I get the least from EAA, but it's required to be able to camp at Oshkosh and I do like supporting what they do with Young Eagles (I participate in those rides each year), aircraft restoration and their general support to GA as a whole.
  17. Dunno,...But I do know I just wasted a minute and a half of my life that I'll never get back...
  18. http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_northern_az/payson/small-plane-makes-emergency-landing-on-sr-87-near-payson This pilot was lucky to have a road to land on. Don't know if the throttle was stuck open or closed. If it was stuck in the open position, they'd probably have plenty of time to decide...water...land...or trees.

  20. I love my GPMS unit as it is IFR capable providing a wealth of knowledge and also has a blattery life of 6 hours for those long cross country flights. As with most cockpit gadgets we often want to upgrade to a unit with more memory as technology progresses. NOT ME! My GPMS unit has too much memory and tends to remind me of the times I taxied on to an active rwy prior to receiving clearance...blew an airspace when not paying attention...etc. etc. etc.
  21. Quote: neil I'm not familiar with the Skypad. Do you know the dimensions of that unit? Neil
  22. Quote: Sven So, before I purchase this overpriced holder, has anyone used this? http://www.pilotmall.com/product/ipad-yokepad/new-products Sven (the Angry Viking)
