  1. What did you come up with on this? I am looking for the same thing. I think I need the #8...
  2. How did this work out? We did the Orion wingtips at Annual. Looks like we’ll do the tail at next opportunity.
  3. Yes, that is what I have reasoned on this. We seldom fill beyond the Inboards, and shortly later they spillover. Which we can live with. It is pretty clear there is no sender in the outboards. However even when the outboards are dry, and down to about 10 in the Inboards, it still is not reading correctly. Will be working with the A&P to at least check the senders. Sounds like there may be a ground problem. I'd be happy with a semi-accurate read of some kind...At least be correct once the outboards run dry....
  4. We've learned on ours that the fuel gauges are useless. Read full or almost full all the time. Was running on fumes on the right tank and showing more than 3/4. Tricky because the outboards seem to have been added after, and still trying to determine at what point the inboards start to spillover into the outboards. Seems like right around 20 gal. Looks like we'll be doing an avionics upgrade early spring which will include new senders. Sure will be nice to have a reference beyond constantly having to do the math to keep track of fuel in the tanks...UGH
  5. Anyone know where I can get this part? So far, not getting any call backs. I found this mentioned in a previous MS thread too. If anyone knows someone with the CAD file I have a guy that will print it for me.
  6. Thank you for this! Well explained.
  7. First step is the Annual. Couldn’t finish that up before we brought it home. Have a great mechanic and IA walking us through an owner assisted. Learning a lot.
  8. Beautiful! We’re taking notes.
  9. Our Mooney has landed!
  10. We’re already looking at that. The plan is to fly with what we have for a bit then make decisions, but we know we’ll be updating avionics.
  11. It checked out pretty well. They found a few things in the inspection. Owner is covering those and we’ll be in business. From what they had to say at the shop, it’s a good plane. Nothing is cheap in aviation, but overall we’re happy with how it turned out. Should have it back here over the weekend.
  12. So excited tonget this thing home to Akron, Ohio
  13. Yep. Had it inspected ar LASAR. But home base was in Washington.
  14. We finally made it through inspection and finalized a deal! If everything goes smoothly, we close Monday and will bring it home late next week! Will post some pics shortly. Then will be asking lots of questions…
  15. I think we found one! 261 conversion. We’ll start the inspection process now, but this is as close as we’ve gotten.
  16. Paul - what a beautiful plane. Glad you found a good one. Enjoy!
  17. Well the first one did not work out. Back into the search process. We are pretty settled on the Mooney M20 series, C-J. Any more than that is really out of our price range. These really seem to hit all of our mission set - XC, efficient, complex time builder. Plus, I've yet to find a Mooney owner that had not fallen in love with their machine.
  18. Wow. Thanks for the quick response! The one we are looking at was kept in Michigan and logbooks reflect that it spent most if its time there. I'll be looking those over again just to make sure I did not miss anything. We opted for a pre-buy at our expense by Thoroughbred Aviation at Lexington, KY. I hadn't asked about the Pre-buy counting as an Annual but will check on that. Last Annual on this was in December, so not much difference there, but interested to hear whether anything new popped up. We are in Northeast Ohio and will be based at Medina Muni (1G5).
  19. Hello all! I am new to the site and new to Mooney. I grew up on Cessna and more recently Pipers. My daughter got her PPL and we are both now setting out to get our IR and to do some XC. We will be looking at a Mooney M20J next week. I've always admired the Mooneys but didn't think it would be in the cards. Looks like this one may be a possibility for us. Operating costs seem pretty reasonable, and it certainly fits the mission (we could move all the way through a Commercial if that is what we decide to do). Seems like a good platform for us. (We were originally considering the Piper Arrow). What do we need to know?
