  1. We are continuing to make progress. We hope to finish the basic engine install today. Tomorrow we will work on shock discs, tires, gear swing, etc.
  2. Lasar replied to an email saying they do rent them. They stopped renting them for awhile so that led to some internal confusion. We have it on the schedule to work on tomorrow so we will try without.
  3. Wow! Yes, that is what I need. I just sent you a message.
  4. I am working to get my plane in annual and the IA said he would do avionics for me if I keep it simple. I had 2 old GNS530s and GTX330 and wanted to upgrade one of them to a 530 WAAS and 330ES for ADSB. I read this only requires 2 pairs of wires to be added. I have the units here to be installed, but I can't seem to find what needs to be done to connect them. I also have the new WAAS antenna and some new coax to go with it.
  5. Turns out the clamp I found was not 100% compatible. The correct part number is 653337 and when I searched it on controller I found it at RAM Aircraft. They have a FAA PMA and their part is 2157-344 for $250 and they have plenty in stock.
  6. Thank you. He is aware of the AD and brought it to my attention. The one that was on there is estimated to be from 1991 and about 1500 hours with one retorque. While it appeared to be in good condition due to the AD he said we must replace it. He said the AD says welded ones are good up to 500 hours with annual inspection. This is a new one in a box of other new ones. The area they were in was special orders paid for others and not used. The junk area is non inventoried parts. From the dust it had been there at least a few years. Maybe someone ordered the wrong part? I didn't question why it was there and I didn't question the competence of my IA. I did google it some before typing this reply. From what I found with my limited abilities this is correct about the 500 hour life span. I also went to FAA.gov and looked it up and was not able to find an AD about the V band clamp on a M20K specifically although I realize it is relative.
  7. Thank you. To clarify it was a new clamp that had never been used before. It was the spot weld type so my IA put it down for 500 hour change out.
  8. Today's big hurdle was the AD for the turbo clamp. The local airport is a Cessna service center so they have a big inventory of part. They didn't have one on the shelf in the size I needed. They pointed me to a junk area and said to look through there. I found a brand new one the same size and they said it's free! That saved $300. Of course it's not really free as I have to pay daily rental to work inside the hangar and they don't allow maintenance to be done anywhere except inside their maintenance hangar.
  9. That's amazing. Thank you! I just sent you a message with my address.
  10. Is that main or front and how would it be used?
  11. For others that might find this thread in the future I was told that Top Gun in Stockton should have them. I plan to try to do it without them.
  12. We got the engine hung yesterday. Today is baffling. Today I am expecting the new shock discs and avionics to come in. I have a 121.5/406 ELT so ordered a new battery for it and registered it. I couldn't believe $310 for a small battery. Someone suggested 530W and 330ES. My IA said he would install avionics as long as we keep it simple. I think this is as simple as it gets since I already have a 530 and 330. Parts cost me $7000 with trade in. Along with everything firewall forward being new or IRAN I decided to put new tires and tubes in it for an extra layer of precaution. The ones on it now are at least 8 years old.
  13. I'm in northeast TN - KTRI
  14. FYI, Lasar no longer rents the tools.
  15. I found 2 or 3 threads on this topic, but they all have dead pictures. I have an out of state IA here this week to get my plane N261TA in annual after waiting a year. We need to replace the shock discs. I am trying to get this done this week. For the front we will pull the assembly to replace the pivot bushings and I was told if it's out that a shop press will do it. For the mains I have heard I can build a tool, but I'd need pictures to know what to build. I have also read that it can be done without a tool. Either way we need a new thread on this with some pictures. Any information is appreciated.
  16. Thanks. Any idea on the special tool to install them?
  17. After waiting a year I finally got an IA to come and put my engine in. Everything firewall forward was sent off and IRAN or simply replaced. They are here until Saturday the 22cd to get it in annual and install the engine. The first problem we have ran into is the donuts for the gear are flat. We definitely need to replace the mains and might as well do the front also. Where can I get the parts? They mentioned a special tool that may be needed to install them also.
  18. I contacted the buyer and clarified that I am not a professional and cannot vouch for the true condition of either blade and told him they are as-is and verified if he still wanted them. He said he definitely wants them. I appreciate everybody critiquing my terminology. That's the best way for me to learn so thank you. The goal of this thread was to help educate others in case they might find themself in a similar situation that there is a resale value of used junk blades.
  19. N261TA had one blade bent when I bought it. @Cody Stallings said I needed to replace both and shipped the old ones back to me and got me going again. I asked when I could do with the old ones and was told to scrap them. I decided to list them on eBay and they are going for a little more than scrap. Just FYI in case anyone else has junk blades. https://www.ebay.com/itm/203637604198?mkevt=1&mkcid=16&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
  20. I'm not sure. My IA has tried to quit on me multiple times and encourage me to find someone else to finish the job. Every time I've replied back that I had total confidence and encouraged him to say that we'll get it done.
  21. The engine is shipping out to me tomorrow.
  22. Guys please take this discussion to another thread. I'd like to keep this on topic about the restoration of my plane.
  23. Today my registration was approved. It will show up on the faa site tomorrow so now I am going to start working on the ferry permit. I have all parts on hand other than hoses, then engine, and the starter. The engine should be almost done. The starter shipped yesterday and I still need to order the hoses.
  24. Also once you get notification that you new document has been received you can call and ask for it to be expedited. I recommend to wait a week after it's been received.
  25. The other option is to have the plane disassembled and put on a trailer behind a truck to a haul it.
