  1. Terrible......and scary. Is this an unusual number for one year?? I sure hope it is. We all hope we will learn and do better but it's hard to be prepared for everything.
  2. That's where my head is at. Saving a few bucks flying into somewhere I'm not comfortable with isn't worth while to me. One question still out there from earlier that I'm still confused: "I thought when the winds aloft are perpendicular to the range, there are greater chances of mountain waves and turbulence--in which case winds from the NW or SE?"
  3. I'm based in C29 though I've been up at KLSE during the week lately for work. If you're interested in checking it out I'd be happy to show you.
  4. Wow, appreciate all the responses! I thought when the winds aloft are perpendicular to the range there are greater chances of mountain waves and turbulence--in which case winds from the NW or SE? It looks like if you fly to the ZANIP fix then to AVL you more or less go through a "valley." Is this a good way come in?
  5. I'd be coming in from the NW so essentially over the range and dropping down into AVL on the east side. Looks like it would be a fairly quick decent on the back side. Alternatively I suppose to one could go around to the south and enter from the east. Thanks for the heads up on fuel prices.
  6. Planning on taking a trip to Asheville NC at the end of the month. Being based in WI I have no "mountain flying" experience. The closest I've gotten is flying into Cheyenne, WY (from the east). Although these mountains are considerably lower than out west I still thought I should ask myself if I'm fit to fly to this airport. A have about 600 hours TT, instrument rating and 70 hours in my Mooney. Any thoughts? Anyone been here before and have some insight if any special experience is required?
  7. I've broken 3 of these clamps in the past 70 hours since I've owned the airplane. Anyone else have trouble with these? I don't believe I have unusual vibration.
  8. I'm Marcus, reside at C29 in WI, since I became interested in flying 4 years ago I've always wanted a Mooney, attracted by the speed and efficiency. I started with an Archer 2 years ago partly due to cost but also thought it would be good to get some more time in before getting into a faster complex airplane. I got my IFR ticket at the same time so it seemed to make sense to do one thing at a time. This last December the opportunity of a 205 came my way and decided I simply could not resist. It's an 87' J 205--N205KD, I believe familiar to some. I've put on about 60 hours so far and really enjoying the airplane! I feel comfortable in it for the most part though I must say my landings still don't always deserve 5 stars.
  9. First post here, regarding fuel pressure I’ve noticed during the initial climb after shutting off the electric pump the pressure will read in the bottom quarter of the green. The electric pump brings it up to the middle and during cruise it normally sits in the middle. Is this typical? Another anomaly I noticed once was fuel pressure was quite slow to get to the green after starting. The electric pump brought it up but went back down after turning off. After a couple min it was in the middle of the green.
