  1. The only certified full authority EI system is the Electroair. I know there are gains to be had there, but the price keeps me at bay. Its hard to justify when I can buy a set of two mags for less money. Especially considering that Electroair's system is only so-so as far as efficiency goes (coming from the experimental side).
  2. We did in one of the family airplanes. Honestly, for me it's just a little 'nicer' looking, and seems slightly easier to read. When we chose to do it, my dad (who was paying for it) liked the mounting better. He thinks it seemed less amateurish.
  3. We have had two PF systems on Cardinals in the family. I've flown before/after on these several times. Power is up a little, it's noticeable, but not going to wow you. Engine temps even out, IE, the EGT's are more consistent across all 4. In the winter, this allows us to run leaner, as CHT's remain manageable. In the summer, to keep CHT's down we run rich, so we don't see the fuel burn savings as much. Where it really shines is that last 1,000' of altitude you need to climb to get over a mountain, the extra 3-7HP shows up there quite nicely. To me, worth it on Carb'd engines, just from the engine health standpoint. Engine is much happier running more balanced pressures. The big question I have for people, is the E model system worth it? Already can balance the injectors, and have even length intake runners....
  4. I promise that "Pushing" your mechanic isn't the right approach for anyone. If "Pushing" gets your airplane done faster, you don't want that guy working on it! I speak from 13 years on A&P work in GA, 12 years managing them, 5 years of ownership (and now 3 of my own airplanes). The things that get overlooked when you start rushing people will scare the crap out of any sane person. If you have someone that does good work and FINDS SQUAWKS, you can definitely put up with them taking the time to do it right. From the pictures I've seen, this guy is going a little overboard, but there is NOTHING wrong with that on an airplane that has been neglected. I can't even begin to tell you the things I have found in airplanes that have been passing annual and flying. Good work, I bought my first airplane at 24, 1970 Citabria, still have it. I am fortunate enough to share it with other people through a trusted flight school, and use that money to pay for my E project!
  5. I'm interested, can you send me an email? I've been checking ebay, but don't see the value in a fresh overhaulled AD hub at $5k. I have a B hub available, so a cheap AD hub prop that needs an overhaul might be just perfect.
  6. Yeah, another guy looking for a prop. I bought a '66 E that SOMEONE porpoised early last year. It has the STC for the 7497 prop, and I have a good spinner. I'm looking for either a 7666A-2 or a 7497. I would consider a 3 blade as a distant third option. This poor airplane has been through 3 props in the last 5 years. I'm not terribly concerned with AD hub or not, if the price is right. steve@workingwarbirds.net
  7. I'm interested, but wondering what the advantage will be over a 201 cowling or the SWTA 201 style conversion? Obviously cheaper than Lopresti is a goal?
