  1. I'm not a 231 owner, but flew with a friend today in a 231 with a new engine and intercooler (don't know about the wastegate) and the owner was trying to not go over 36" on takeoff. I was amazed to see at least three finger widths of throttle remaining at 36" and over the course of 6 full stops and takeoffs noticed at least a couple momentary over boosts to 43" and one just past 45". Two questions. With that much throttle remaining, is the throttle out of rig and can the waste gate be adjusted to max at 40 or so? Thanks.
  2. Sorry - getting into this discussion late. I'm amazed that the AC slipped off the jack. When I got my '89 Bravo three years ago, I broke down and bought three alpha jacks ($300 ea) and found those round yellow lift balls at Aircraft Spruce that replace the tie down rings and fit neatly into the top Alpha jack cups and stay there. The nose lift point behind the left cowl flap with its different thread was a dilemma. Eventually I found a hardened steel hex bolt (seems like 24 thread) at Ace hardware with a round head like a carriage bolt that fit perfectly into the jack cup. After tightening the bolt as far up a it would go, I decided to leave it there as it has no interference with the cowl flaps. Someday I might get a shorter bolt, but anytime I change tires or brakes or do annuals, I swing the gear and I am never in doubt that the jacks might slip (but still cross my fingers because it just looks weird with no feet on the ground.) 3. See how much force it takes to move the valve at the tank with your hands or a tool. My valve is so tight the cockpit control would not move it and then forcing it, I broke something at the cockpit control head and will go in and look soon. My system is tight so leaving the valve on hardly loses any pressure.
  4. Hi all - New owner of N888EG - '89 M20M - 27-0021, Erie Colorado Trying to devour all the information available here and keep coming up with new searches to hopefully find answers. BUT... during the pre-buy had the engine cowl off and didn't think to look for the Tannis heater plug. Where in the world could it be? Also is there a place to order the external auxiliary power adapter plug. AC came with a 12/24 Battery minder, but no adapter plug to connect with. Can't find any information in the POH on the Tannis and it didn't come with the Engine Operators Manual. Mooney factory has been terrific sending me a few missing pages from the POH. Is there a scanned-ocr'd POH out there somewhere where I can word search the POH for words like Tannis and read from my iPad instead of flipping paper. I love this aircraft ! Thanks
  5. I have the CD from the FAA registry with the ownership history and IA provided Airworthiness history. Many LLC owners (6) for an '89 M20M. I plan on keeping this until they take away my medical in 15+ years.
  6. Yes - purchase is through a broker and escrow will be in place. Here's the operative paragraph - which I like. but nothing about my personal inspection or test flight. "Pre-purchase Inspection. Buyer, at It's option, may elect to have the airplane inspected before delivery. Buyer has the option of specifying the entity or person performing the inspection and the inspection shall be at Buyer's expense. Buyer has the option of accepting or declining acceptance of the aircraft based on the results of the inspection."
  7. You guys are terrific and I look forward to joining this illustrious group. Received a 2-page purchase contract today that pretty much leaves the only way out as the acceptability of the results of the PPI. Everything else is "as is"....kinda like buying a used car. Anyone have examples of purchase contracts that might give me more "happiness" with this one or potentially useful verbiage to add. Since the "recommended" PPI provider is the provider of the last three annuals, and I control the actual PPI provider at my cost, it seems like I should have the AC flown to Denver to the closest MSC - Arapahoe Air at Centennial AP, in Denver. Anyone have experience with Arapahoe Air? Thanks. BTW - I'm a systems engineer, been GA flying for 45 years, and have good insight into how things work and how things are bought in the hundred page contracts. This is my first for an aircraft. Thanks denver44ck@earthlink.net
  8. Who would anyone recommend to do a Mooney PPI in the Wichita, KS area? There are no approved Mooney specific shops in the area. Thanks
