Congrats my fellow Mooney owner !!! I named my plane Jane ....".plane Jane" get it ....I absolutely love my "66" C . Its a blast to fly , i love my plane and hope you learn to love yours as much . Welcome to Mooney !!!
-
I just had my plane done on Fri . She would roll to the left at cruise speed . The service manual states that to correct for a wing heavy roll , you don't adjust ailerons !!! If your Mooney has the ailerons out of whack something serious is going on. The manual states that to correct a wing heavy roll tendency you bend the trailing aileron edge down. Don't not bend the edge up under any circumstance . I had my mech do the procedure after my home airport mech had it for days and couldn't figure it out.He bent the edge down maybe a 16th - 1/8 in down about 8 in down the length or trailing aileron edge and viola straight flying plane in under an hr. Make sure your yokes are centered with the board or bar clamped technique ....

Thanks Gentlemen i appreciate all the info.......

Hey guys just had a little work done at my local shop and mech said i might have a leak in my left tank.Apparently there is a slight weep from where the rear spar goes thru tank.Does any one out there have practical hands on exp resealing a tank ?? And what is involved ? I am very mechanically inclined and don't mind tackling it but want to know from anyone who has done it what is the process and difficulty.......D

I went online everyday to gather info on the M20C.I found this site http://www.mooneypilots.com/mapalog/M20C Evaluation/M20C_Evaluation_Report.html and for future Mooney owners its an absolute must read.I posted on Mooney space a year ago asking the masses if it was possible to find a turn key Mooney for around $30,000 and i got lamb basted especially by most of the "rich" assholes who look down their noses at guys like me. Just a blue collar Joe whom works for my money. Anyway I'm here to tell future Mooney owners about my endeavor. After searching 2 hrs a day for 5 yrs , on every Aircraft for sale site i came across my bird on EBAY of all places. There was a buy it now for $26,000 or bid.Plane was for sale on Sellers web site for $30,000. I bid $18,500 and won it. Had a local Mooney specialist do a pre buy and gave it the thumbs up.All the techs in the shop couldn't believe the condition and what i paid for it. She is bare bones with one Nav com radio and a good transponder. High time Motor but runs great . After test flight with high time airline pilot who says she's flys great and flying her myself i jumped on the sale. Hired a ferry pilot and she was flown to NH where she lives now......So future Mooney owners I'm here to tell you you don't have to be rich to own a Mooney. Just do your research and look around. Great deals are out there you just gotta find them.....Cant imagine flying any other plane .....

I call my bird Jane ( Plane Jane )

I am pleased to announce after 15 yrs lusting on Mooneys , and just ended a 5 yrs plan of research and search i am the proud owner of a M20C . It was love at first sight, and love at first flight. She is a bare bones girl but is gonna be a great canvas to start with. I plan on systematically restoring her while flying the s*^t out of her. So hello fellow Mooney drivers you have one more to the club. One of the best milestones in aviation that i have crossed.....

I would like to thank a special Mooney owner / pilot " Lance Keve " for replying to a post i started weeks ago looking for a Mooney ride to get a little time in a Mooney, to help me decide if a Mooney is what i want as my next plane.I am a long time Mooney lover and am planning or getting into my first Mooney this summer as owner. Lance is a great guy who flew up to me in NH to take me for an hour ride demonstrating his beloved bird. Lance was very patient in explaining all things Mooney and let me take controls for a while. The fact that this gentleman flew to me to give me a ride says a lot. The fact that he flat out refused me giving him money for fuel says a lot about a man and his character, truly outstanding !!!! So thanks to Lance i`m am now ever so hooked on getting a Mooney. If all pilots took the time as Lance Keve did to give a little time and patients i think general aviation would return back to the heyday years and flight schools would be swamped with students. So Mooney owners give a friend or even a stranger peering through the fence at the airport a ride. You never know whom you might inspire......Thanks again Lance Keve and your great little M20E !!!!!

Hello Gentlemen, Any Mooney owners out there flying around southern NH, Mass ,VT , or Maine ? I am a "Future" Mooney owner and I am looking for an owner/pilot who would like to share a flight or two.I would be more than willing to pay for fuel , etc for some time in your plane.I am really interested in doing a bunch landings etc rather than a long flight.I am willing to travel a reasonable distance for a flight if needed.I have been looking at getting into a M20C/E/F but preferably a C or E model."Johnson bar a must" as i prefer everything manual.I am a strict VFR pilot with 400 hrs looking to step up to a Mooney , my dream plane or 14 yrs. Thanks for your time ....Dan Lettre

Hello Gentlemen ! Hope all you had a great holiday season ! So here`s my question.....If your looking to buy a Mooney, i know you should definitely have a pre buy done ( to save your ass literally ) .But do you need to have one done if you are buying from a reputable dealer such as "All American " or "Air-Mods" or "Skywagons" ?? These seem to be the most reputable shops i`ve come across online. All their respective aircraft seem to be top notch and in fantastic cond.So silly question again .....Would you need a pre inspection done if buying from well respected dealer ???????

Finding and owning a Mooney

I think RL Carter says the best of all owners chirping in !!! GA is dying men and you know it.Just go to ANY flight seminar and look how much white hair is in the room.WE ALL should do everything to get people interested in flying.I have met so many a$#^%$s that had more money than brains ( and flying skills ) who would look down their noses at guys like me on the ramp.Would walk right past me without a simple hello.I go to the airport every weekend just to be around airplanes.I will and have spent my last $$ for the week renting a plane to take a stranger up in the air because they were there looking through the fence. If and when i get a Mooney i would and will share my plane and the gift of flight with anyone who shows ANY interest......But thanks again for ALL the great advice..... -
Finding and owning a Mooney
flyhigh603 replied to flyhigh603's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Thanks for all the input gentlemen !! AS far as the brake issue with the Mooney at my field.I have learned that it was the brake master cylinder that needed replacement.Master cylinder was $2200 alone and the part that was sent had different bolt patterns on the 2 that was sent.I know that ALL machines brake down and ALL parts wear out.I guess I'm not asking for a squawk free aircraft at $30-$40,000. I `m just worried about parts availability for the older M20C`s / m20E`s. I guess i`m just asking if as a Mooney owner do you gentlemen have to put $1000`s in every annual because of constant part failures ? do any of you just have annuals done that don`t require fixing major components ? I know stuff wears out and brakes. So really the question is can Mooney`s be maintained affordably or are you guys repairing constantly ? I have no problem maintaining an aircraft i`m just wondering if i`m gonna be repairing major components regularly....... -
Finding and owning a Mooney

Wow some good advice guys.I would like to add i`m not a newbie to aviation even though i have only 400 hrs.I go online 2 hrs a day and do research on MANY types of planes.I owned a 65 cessna 150 and did all the annuals owner assist and those annuals were $400 ea.There is a M20E based at my home airport that the owner had a brake cylinder fail.It took the shop 3 months to get it back in the air because they couldn't find the "right " part, and from what the mechanic told me it had to be sent back twice because of wrong part was sent.On top of that it cost $5400 !!! i just can`t wrap my head around those #s. I am very mechanically adept and can learn by just seeing it done once.I research every plane that is listed for sale from 10 different sites and know by memory what the best looking deals are.I`m just a blue collar Joe that wants to own a simple Mooney but it seems every Mooney needs big $$ every other annual.I figured i have a budget for the mid $30s and have seen some good looking deals for mid 60`s m20C`s and a few m20E`s near the high $30`s low low $40`s.But what i`m hearing is at this price range they are not worth it ???? I am located in So. New Hampshire. So again any advice will be well listed to....Is there any Mooney owners on here, in or near NH ??? -
Hello everyone ! Brand new member, longtime reader. I am a private pilot with roughly 400 hrs. 380 hrs in 172`s / 150`s.From my first flight lesson, i walked past a Mooney and have had a love affair with them ever since ( even the ramp queens ).I`m looking to step up ( i think ) to a Mooney. After reading through literally hundreds of reviews and blogs and web sites i am getting the impression that owning and operating even a cheaper Mooney ( mid 60`s M20C`s ),is only for the rich and famous.I keep reading of all these horror stories of $2000 , $5000, $10,000 annuals. Is it at all possible to find a M20C / M20E in the $30,000`s that won't need thousands of dollars of squawk list repairs ? Is it possible to find a " turn key " Mooney in that range that i can actually fly for a "few " years without putting hundreds / thousands of $$$ into it.Also it seems that every Mooney for sale has some kinda issues with less than honest owners.I`m still trying to wrap my head around paying $2000 + for an average annual with no problems. If Mooneys are so well built why does it seems every other annual you have to put thousands of $$$ into it ? IS THIS TRUE ???? I don't believe in TBO times because after 100`s of hrs of personal research i have seen engines with low times fail before 1000 hrs and seen ridiculous high time engines still flying with no horsepower loss. There is a M20E at my field with 4,000 hrs + on the motor that still has compressions in the mid 70`s with no oil leaks.I would take a high time motor over a motor that is flown only 5 hrs a year. So again i ask all you Mooney owners is it possible to find a turn key Mooney in the $30,000`s ???? Also i might ad i am a VFR only pilot , so IFR equip is of no use to me if that makes a big difference.....
