  1. I called Lasar for the necks and caps and I busted out full boar laugh when I was told what Mooney charges. Ok get this for a pair of caps and a pair of oem necks it's was $8600 ..... $ 820 from lasar
  2. Any one have a good set of fuel necks for a 66 M20C ?? I'd also be interested in the fuel caps also ........
  3. If you do the research thru the NTSB you will discover that the safest motors turning a propeller are at 2600- 3500 hrs past TBO. The engines with the most " In flight failures " 0-700 hrs after OH. TBO is a recommendation and just that. I have talked with dozens of A&Ps and IAs and most will tell you off the record if it isn't making metal don't change a thing. There was a 172 on the rental fleet at my home field that had an engine with 4200 hrs past TBO ( no kidding ) and the only reason they had it OH'd was the insurance co refused to insure it with the high time. The head Mech said that was the best engine they ever had in the fleet. A twin to the 172 with 400 hrs after OH pooped out cylinder and a carb . High time motors if cared for are I'm my opinion are a safer bet , if they are taken care of and flown often. Don't let high time motors scare you off , do some research and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
  4. Im pretty sure the service manual states 35 Hrs for average annual
  5. I think this is a great deal for an A&P who wants to get into a great flying plane. This bird runs awesome with no internal corrosion at all.....
  6. Thanks for the info BlueHighWay and the pics thats great
  7. Yes I am asking $14,500 .The post is what i saw online from the brokers website 2 weeks before i bought her. The ad was 3-4 weeks old when posted originally from the brokers website.Which is why it says $29,900 on the ad
  8. At this point i think i just wanna sell the bird and hit reset. First time in 15 yrs i have absolutely no draw to go flying which bothers me a bit cause i was actually seriously in love with Jane, which is what i named her ( plane Jane ). Gonna be really really hard to fly / rent anything but a Mooney. But anyway here is the spec sheet i have that i got on the brokers site just before i bought her...... Thanks again for all the great advice guys , I'm sorry if i seem a little difficult at some advice but this went from Love to complete disappointment. Just for shi$# and giggles guys, go on the NTSB website and you gotta do a little searching but research engine failures and times. O-360 Lycomings with 2600 hrs - 3900 had least amount of mech failures which includes" catastrophic" which translates to in flight failures. Most mech failures .....0-700. Something to think about........
  9. Tony I did budget $5-10,000 for first annual but the tanks are $10,200 installed from Griggs and at least $11,500-12,000 for my mech to do it.Not including cost to get the plane to wherever for what $$$$ its gonna cost which puts flying it to have tanks stripped and sealed. Closest place is a 5 hr flight. Im already $3,000 onto mid annual. Believe me i don't want to sell her but i don't have an extra $12,000 kicking around. I knew the engine was a factor and was gonna overhaul in 3-4 yrs but wasn't expecting the tank deal now. I owned 2 other planes and didn't have to put a dime into either one except for annual cost. So this is a total blindside. I did a lot more research than you could imagine ...really.
  10. Gentlemen I appreciate all the advice. But in the end putting in a ferry tank and having it brought somewhere else to have tanks stripped and sealed is the same cost as doing the bladders. Ive researched the s*#t out of this and in the end its gonna be $11,000-$12,000 with all cost factored in , fuel , hotel room , rental car ,commercial flight home etc. I JUST DONT HAVE THAT KINDA LIQUID CASH !!!!! I bought this plane on a chance , i knew it had high time motor but it ran awesome. I took a chance and i lost out.So anyone that is serious PM and we can talk. It was in mid annual and needs annual completed. I don't have the space ( hangar ) to work on it out of the weather. You could get her running and fly her the way she is but its your life you gambling with.I`m not some shcmuck that just bought in to this blind i researched the s#%t out if this plane got ,all ducks in a row but this tank issue just killed me. If anyone wants a great project plane this is it............... P.S i would never let anyone work on my aircraft that doesn't hold and A&P / IA.
  11. She's in So. NH And yes sad......
  12. I have a 1966 M20 C Mark 21 in fantastic cond for sale. She needs to have bladders installed and annual completed. This is a flying project. Upon midway thru annual ( January )my mech discovered fuel tank sealant had disintegrated and clogged fuel screens so need to have tanks stripped and resealed or bladder tanks installed. My mech doesn't do tanks anymore and only option is bladders. I thought about having ferry tank installed and flown to facility to have done but cost of doing that equals bladders installed.Plane has no internal corrosion at all and is in fantastic cond for age.High time motor with low time airframe. 2640 total time. Yes she has high time motor but engine runs like a top and produces no metal at all from oil analysis. SHE flies hands off with no wing leveler.Very basic panel but everything works well.Manual gear and hydro flaps and fantastic glass .I bought her last july and flew her 30+ hrs in 5 months with not even a hiccup from her, starts right up !! Paint in in great shape and interior is ok. This would be a great project for A&P or owner with time and $$. I never intended to have to sell her but never ever thought that i would needs tanks done after a thorough pre buy didn't catch this. This truly has devastated me financially and spiritually so i just want out of my loan if possible.I can't afford to get her back in the air so I'm having the engine pickled for storage in next month or two.I have a top o line Bruce custom cover ill throw in ..was $1000.I believe this is a great deal for the right person that can turn a wrench.PM if any interest....Thanks Dan
  13. Wrench 978 Are you looking to buy into my Mooney ?? I've been tossing around the idea of getting a partner before I decide to just sell her. Would be a shame to sell outright because of how clean and corrosion free that she is. If it wasn't such a big $$ items as the tanks are I would never sell her. Engine runs like a top and she flys hands off with no auto pilot .
  14. My C got very hard to start last 4 flights . Put her into annual and discovered my tank sealant disintegrated so bad it clogged up the primer jet. We talked in detail about my plane having to get bladders installed. Have your Mech inspect the primer jet
  15. Ruth at Griggs has been awesome !! Spoke several times and got great info.Yes they are looking at a march eta to be able to sell tank kits to public. But if you have them install tanks they charge $10,200 for kit and instal and can be done now cause they fabricate the tanks. My Mech will install the kit no problem . But $10-11,000 for tanks installed wasn't in the budget. She is a bare bones VFR M20C which is why I got her cheap. Internally she's the cleanest Pre 75 Mooney my Mech has ever seen . She's got great paint so she was taken care of at some point. I had a meeting with my Mech this morn and I decided to pickle the engine and park her for a few yrs to save up to get her in the air again. My long range plans are to eventually restore her with a Hawker hurricane paint skeem with the shark mouth etc. Yes I see all of your eyes rolling ... like my wife says ...at least you'll have a plane that's yours to visit at the airport .She will fly again so it's better than constantly looking. But man is it gonna be hard now to rent a 172 to stay current........
  16. Carusoam i enjoy your replies , you seem very wise and give excellent advice. The reason I decided to put her away for winters is with my job schedule I would be lucky to fly her once a month, by time I get to airport after work it's dark thirty.Im a VFR pilot and fly twice a week in the summer. But winters it's different up here . I have my bird outside so I pay to put her inside for the worst part of the winter. In mid winter I'd have to pay a fee to bring her into the FBO hangar andpay them to get her pre heated. So to go thru all that trouble and $$ to fly once a month if I'm lucky it's not worth the hassle. Yes she sat for a while but I was told by the broker the previous owner put $12,000 in last two annuals and then threw in the towel. She had low hrs on frame and motor but she started right up instantly and sounded and ran like a top. After I had a pre buy and the tech said she's got great bone and absolutely not internal corrosion. Matter of fact my Mech said first time he opened her up he was really surprised how clean she was. Best pre 75 Mooney he's ever seen. I know she sat , but with a good pre but I thought I could fly her the way she was for at least a few yrs before I start to replace big items. Since she had a great pre buy and she sounded , flew and ran like a top I thought it was worth the chance. Basically Tim at Island Bound Aircraft lied like a rug on most everything he told me about condition and what was previously done to her . If she didn't run and fly the way she did and I got an iffy pre buy I would have run away fast. So as it stands I can either put tanks in her or do the annual but I can't get annual done till tanks are fixed. And at ballpark $11,000 for bladders and instal I just can't afford it. I saved and busted my ass for 5 long years to pay off debts and save money for down payment . I bought her pretty cheap so at least I'm not out $30-40,000. I paid $18,500 , but if you saw her you'd not believe it. I knew she would need an engine in several yrs but thought I'd get thru till then. Never in a million yrs did I expect to have her grounded because of fuel tanks. This has completely sucked the love of flying out of me and I'm even thinking of dumping her for cheap cause I won't be realistically getting her in the air for 2-5 yrs. truly rips my heart out cause it's been my one and only goal for last 5 yrs to find a little M20C. To see her parked on the ramp now actually brings me to tears . But thank you !! your very wise and I hope from my story and the advice you posted here some other future Mooney lover won't get caught like I did.....
  17. Gsxr Thanks a lot for the info !!!! I'll be calling him next week for sure. Thanks again . And thanks to all who have given their 2 cents .
  18. i bought the plane after what I thought was a thorough pre buy inspection. $12,000 was put into her last 2 annuals and brand new carb at last annual. An annual was completed 3 weeks before I bought her. So after I got thumbs up from pre buy and I did a very detailed personal inspection , and a crazy shakedown flight I thought she was gonna be ok for at least a couple yrs.She started right up , flew hands off , sounded fantastic , and no oil or fuel leaks when I checked her out. The way this all come about was because I decided to do my annual early to have it done so that every winter I want to store her for 4 months of winter. Annual is actually due in May but my long range plans was to sync up my annual to when I put her away for winter, Dec/Jan. Get annual done , put her up for 4 months then when weather and daylight get better I pull her out and go flying. But this tank disaster was completely unexpected. First sign was she was a real bitch to start last few flights and it wasn't really cold yet. My Mech said the primer jet in the brand new carb was clogged solid. I could tell by his reaction he was as surprised as I was. He showed me the failed sealant in the screens and it was horrifying !! Last two flights I took were 2 hrs in remote wilderness an hr flight from any civilization . They never would have found me. So the reality is hitting pretty hard.
  19. If your serious about buying a Mooney learn from my mistakes. I just bought a 66 M20C 8 months ago that i thought was in great shape. actually the airframe and exterior is in excellent shape but what was lurking under the panels was a different story. I found my dream plane 1500 miles away. Low hrs but high time motor, no big deal if maintained prop. I had a pre buy at a shop that advertised we work on Moonies and had the Mooney logo on the website. Long story short i thought i did all the right things and bought her.I put my plane in early annual to store for winter but mid way thru annual my plane is grounded. Apparently the sealant in my tanks have failed in catastrophic fashion. My carb ( 8 months old ) was so full of failed sealant that it has to be overhauled. The pre buy shop never looked in the tanks. Now my plane is grounded in mid annual till i get bladder tanks installed. My mech won't do a strip and seal job cause he's not set up for it at all. On top of that the log books were a disaster , many ad`s signed off but never done.I asked specifically how the logs looked. Was told they look good i was told. Parts put on at past annuals were put on backwards causing damage. So in a nut shell be hyper vigilant and go thru the process in person, ask lots of questions along the way. A very wise Mooney owner has told me recently that with a Mooney its very wise that instead of a "Pre buy inspection " have a full blown annual done with the agreement that anything major comes up you discuss with current owner before you move foreword. Its will be a little more than pre buy but the safety you'll have of you and your wallet is priceless. Like if things come up like ad`s signed off but were not done the current owner pay for it, especially if he says " oh yeah all the ad`s have been done". Any major finds should be discussed and agreed on before purchase. But you pay for the annual of course , just not for major issues that come up. Thats your leverage . If the owner has a problem with you paying for an annual and agreement about issues coming up then run very far away.If a Mooney is maintained properly then annual should be a breeze.Yes its a machine and things break but well maintained machines can last forever. Every letter in the alphabet you move up in a Mooney gets more expensive all the way around. I love my 66 M20C !!! best flying plane I've ever been in.I could never go back to anything else. Good luck .....
  20. I called Lasar about these exact switches and the wanted $175 ea !!! yes each !! i ve been looking around for used sets but very hard to find....
  21. I thank all the Owners on here for your advice. Again my Mech is older but super experienced, he's not trying to screw me he is just really safety conscious. Which is why he's gotten the rep he has in the area, I mean the NH state police have him exclusively work on their planes. I think that says something and I trust him completely......do you trust your mech ? or do you just go to next Mech that tells you what you want to hear with his hand open ????
  22. Gentlemen I hear what all of you are saying. I went with Bender because there was a logo on the website and happened to be on the field where plane was. I called and he said he serviced Moonies, even had 2 mechs with their own Moonies. I hired him to do a pre purchase inspection . He found a few discrepancies , not a whole lot but enough that i paid to have the worse ones corrected. I was told the plane had great bones , no internal corrosion , and log books looked good. One item was flex oil hose to oil gage needs replacement, ( very old ) so i said please do. When my Mech opened up the cowl completely ,the oil line was changed up to fire wall. From fire wall to gage was still old line ...."WTF" !! . They only changed the inboard line. Also they never even looked in the tanks. One item of discrepancies was fuel filler necks had rusting and should be changed eventually , but was in no way a deal breaker. But i would expect a mech doing a pre buy to look in the tanks especially Mooney tanks .I mean if you work on Moonies you know about tank problems. And the real kicker is i asked if the logs were checked for anything out of the normal. I was told they look good. My MECH SAYS THEY ARE A MESS !! Everyone on here tells me to just put a ferry tank in and bring it somewhere, but gentlemen the engine sucked up enough failed , flaking sealant to choke a horse. My Mech has to send the brand new carb ( 8 months old ) out to be rebuilt because its so clogged with 2 different types of failing sealant. The factory sealant and bad patch job sealant. My Mech won't sign ferry permit because the entire fuel system is full of S#*& !! and its in mid annual !! Cant run the engine till tanks are sealed or Bladdered. He won't do a strip reseal because its just a super nasty, vile job and he's not set up for that. So in a nut shell , i thought i did the right things ( Pre buy, Title search, etc.)But in the end it didn't really matter. I`m not rich at all, just absolutely love flying and bringing in people to aviation.I have a limited toy fund so as to why i tried to get best quality for the $. My dream plane was and has always been a Mooney. But this fuel tank thing just grounded my dream plane i have been working towards for 5 yrs, put all my chickens in the basket. Now she's grounded for a couple yrs at best till i get $$$ to get Bladders, $11,000 installed. Then i have to deal with the laundry list of stuff that was painfully missed at Pre Buy, probably $5-10,000 annual by then. I know , i know , i know ....if you can't afford the maint on the plane don't buy one......right ?
  23. Being a first time Mooney owner i thought i had my ducks in a row with getting a pre buy for a shop that has a Mooney sign on the website and says they work on Moonies so i figured they would do a good job.The list of things they missed keeps growing on a daily basis. With these tanks i gotta get the first annual could be in the $20-$25,000 range. I still can't wrap my head around this !!!!! Don't buy anything from " Island Bound aircraft " !!!!!! out of Clearwater Fla. I hate to put it up here but after talking to my Mech and going over logs in detail there wasn't anything done that the salesman told me was done on this plane. I will never ever go thru a dealership again. Looking back he just told me a BS story to get me to sign on dotted line.
  24. just got ahold of Griggs aircraft the people who took over O&N bladders. Ruth was very nice and very informative. She said Griggs can fabricate and instal the bladder tanks in house only at this time while they are awaiting FAA approval of the PMA. To sell to individuals we are all gonna have to wait for FAA to approval to go thru , which might happen beginning of March. So the kit for 54 gal system is $6600 , Not to bad.........
