  1. So I put in a brand new oil cooler because it had a leak and was almost as old as me. Then I noticed the six month old oil hose that goes to the bottom fitting was also leaking a little. Figured it must be the fitting. Swapped fittings and still leaking. Not a lot but still too much for my liking. It’s an aluminum fitting coming out of the cooler with stainless fitting on the hose end. Might that be the issue. Picture attached for your viewing pleasure.
  2. The story ends with a new oil cooler for yes, 1000.00 bones. I figured it was 45 years old and time to lay to rest.
  3. Yikes! 1,000 bones? I’m hoping that’s for a new one.
  4. Any one have their oil cooler overhauled or replaced lately? Who did you use and if you don’t mind sharing time and cost. Thanks!
  5. That’s exactly what I did. So lame… lol
  6. Grinder off the head and she’s loose! thanks
  7. What do you do when one of your fasteners won’t release? I would suspect the pin has slipped but I can’t open it!
  8. I’ve noticed that after landing and refueling then restarting my engine it seems unhappy. Runs a little rough and pops and farts a little. All monitors are normal. I power up for take off and it purrs like a kitten. It does not like to idle when it’s hot. Thoughts?
  9. Well you just can’t make this up, but here goes. I thought the problem was fixed. Not so much. See if you can follow the bouncing ball. Approximately three years ago I had a mag failure leaving Monterey. Had the mag pulled and flew it home. Fun part was a ride home in a G3. Had mag overhauled and flew back with a A&P to reinstall. He had a hell of a time getting it to run correctly. Can’t recall why. Finally got it sorted and flew home. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I started having rough engine on left mag. We found shielding on right side was grounding to main wire on P-lead. Couldn’t figure why that would make left mag run rough. Fixed leads and all normal for one flight. Next flight, left mag check not running rough but 150 RPM drop. Back to the drawing board. We decided to pull the mag and found the following. Mag cap was not indexed correctly and mag installed upside down. So all these years checking right was left and left was right. Capacitor on right side was toast and right points a little toasty. Purchased a overhaul exchange from Kelly Aerospace with two new capacitors and all is back to normal.
  10. For whatever it’s worth fixing the P-lead on the right mag seemed to fix the problem. Go figure
  11. So we discovered something interesting yesterday. We changed the plugs yesterday and there was no improvement. So we started just letting the engine idle while moving around the ends of the P-lead at the back of the mag. Moving around the right P-lead made the engine run rough and almost die. Looks like the end was grounding out. I'm not an A&P but hear me out. When you select the left mag, you're grounding out the right to run only on the left, yes? So while checking left mag the right really is coming on and off intermittently. Can this be the issue?
  12. Checked continuity and things are as they should be. Real head scratcher.
  13. Been having rough engine on left mag issues. Installed new plugs and no change. We started checking the P-leads with engine running. When moving around the P-lead for the right mag when running on the right mag engine practically dies, yet it's been the left mag that's been running rough. Could there be some possible connection? Moving around the P-lead on the left mag makes no difference. I hope this makes sense.
  14. https://apps.savvyaviation.com/my-flights/37091/4c4007f6-0d35-47cd-a363-176db4ac5403 Not sure if this is correct on sharing link. Might show all flights or just yesterdays. 2-6-22 will be the run up then shut down. Thanks in advance!
  15. Well I did my first data download off my Jpi 830. Interesting info. Cylinder 4 running colder as well as large egt drop. 300 degree difference. Sent off the Savvy for analysis.
  16. I do have a JPI 830 and have noticed cylinder 4 is running on average 25 degrees cooler than the rest. Never did that before. Changed both plugs in that cylinder with no change.
  17. So this problem seems to be intermittent. On run up this morning, running rough on left side again. After checking twice decided not to fly. When I got back to the hangar I ran it up two more times and now it's back to normal. Couldn't afford to get stuck somewhere today so I scraped the flight. Wires are 520 hours old, mag overhauled 224 hours ago, spark plugs replaced with REM 38D's 136 hours ago. More suggestions appreciated.
  18. Went to do a run up before departing yesterday. Right mag 60 drop, left mag running rough. Noticed while taxing out cylinder 4 30 degrees colder than the rest. Taxi to mechanic to figure this out. We check plugs on number four, no visible issues. Do continuity test and bottom plug fails. We clean top plug and replace bottom plug with new. No change. Decide to pull all plugs. Mechanic notices wire end to bottom number two is cold. Cleaned all plugs and reinstall and a little better. We swap bottom plugs to top and now back to normal. Flew for a few hours and all back to normal. I don’t understand. thoughts?
  19. Don’t want to drag them through the mud, but PM me and I’ll explain.
  20. I had mine painted at Corona about 2 years ago. Can’t say I would do it again.
  21. So my understanding is that starting the engine puts bad things into your oil, but flying burns it off. So you go fly it then taxi to the pump and fuel it up. I have bladders so I like to keep it full. You restart the engine to taxi to the hangar and put it away till you can fly again. Did I just help to create a corrosion issue?
  22. Yikes!!!!
