  1. The informative, heartfelt posts in this thread have been very valuable to me. Thanks to all of you for the education. The pilot was a clinical psychologist, most states do not allow CPs to prescribe meds, that's a job for psychiatrists. I find it interesting that Dr. Buxton testified at a Virginia Board of Medicine committee six months before the crash. The committee was reviewing a case against two psychiatrists and it involved 'Gaming the system' to get Adderall. http://pilotonline.com/news/local/health/doctors-say-they-were-duped-in-beach-adhd-suicide/article_eb0f3f75-7b29-5160-a457-79f583658c6c.html I sent the NTSBs report to a few members of the Buffalo music community who still honor the life of Ted Reinhardt, one of Buxton's passengers.
  2. Here is the Factual report published Friday. Apparently, there will be a Final rpt soon. https://app.ntsb.gov/pdfgenerator/ReportGeneratorFile.ashx?EventID=20150304X81814&AKey=1&RType=Factual&IType=FA
  3. He's an experienced and well-respected pilot. This is his fourth incident: 1. In 2015, he crash-landed a World War II-era airplane on a Santa Monica, California, golf course after the engine failed. 2. While piloting a Beechcraft Bonanza in 2000, Ford was forced to make an emergency landing at Lincoln Municipal Airport in Nebraska. He and his passenger weren't hurt, but the plane clipped the runway, which damaged its wing tips. 3. In 1999, he crash-landed a helicopter in Ventura County, California, during a training flight with an instructor. Are the FAA & NTSB going to get tired of reading his name on incident and crash reports?
  4. He didn't have much fuel when he went down. Do newer aircraft have tanks that minimize sloshing around of fuel during turbulence?
  5. Here is the NTSB Preliminary: http://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviation/brief.aspx?ev_id=20150304X81814&key=1
  6. Sad day. I hope this is a game changing event.
  7. Thanks guys, I'd like to know the results of the NTSB investigation. Are the reportsavailable to the public?
  8. How long does it take for the FAA to file a preliminary report and make it public?
  9. Well said. I'm following the story mostly because of the death of the drummer Ted Reinhardt. The local TV and radio stations are still talking about the crash, his funeral is at 1PM today. The response from his friends, fans and family has been amazing. The online guest book linked to his obituary has more entries than I have ever seen. This does not diminish the concern for the families of the other two victims. I'm not a pilot but I've been interested in aircraft safety and investigations since I was stationed at a USMC reserve air group (MAG-41, near Dallas TX) in the 1980s. After reading the original news articles I suspected that the accident was preventable and avoidable. Grief and anger are experienced at times like this. I'll feel better when the investigation is over and a report is issued.
  10. I live in Buffalo, my sister knew Ted. She told me about the dog last week, then I read in his obit that the dog named Henry was next to him when he died. Maybe the Norfolk press did not consider the dog's death to be newsworthy. The music community in Bflo is taking his death very hard. He played with Spyro Gyra when they were starting out. Also played in local bands Rodan and Gamalon. He's receiving condolences from across the country and from Canada and London UK.
  11. One of the victims, Ted Reinhardt had his dog with him on the flight.
