  1. I am scheduled for a reseal at Wetwinologist Ft Lauderdale this summer and am trying to plan out everything. Is it necessary to drop the plane off at Banyan or is that only if you can’t arrive on the date you’re supposed to? It looks like it is a short drive or long walk to the tri-rail train station to get down to MIA to get back home. Is it a safe area to walk or should I just get an Uber? Safe to leave Bose headsets and Stratus in the plane, or remove all valuables? I was told it would be outdoors a few days during the leak check. Any pre or post work measures advisable? I assume a good coat of wax to help seal against the salt air and abrasions would be good. Fuel cap seals are good as sitting out in a few rain showers seems inevitable. Anything else? Saw the recommendation to have the sump drains replaced. General consensus that’s a good idea to do at the time? I have one original and one that’s been replaced and both are working fine. Any information or lessons learned would be appreciated. I just replaced all landing shock discs and normally land well, so am hopeful I can do this once and have it last the rest of my piloting years as me and my M20C are both close to being 60 years old.
  2. I am in north Alabama. Is anybody reputable doing Mooney fuel tank sealing closer than Ft Lauderdale?
  3. I also fly a 0-360-A1D and will use a little carb heat to even EGT temps, also pulling the throttle off of full a bit helps get a more even mixture, with the throttle plate causing eddies in the air flow (or thats how I think it works anyway) Often I am able to slowly push the carb heat back in after the temp spreads have decreased and they will stay that way.
  4. Thanks, but I am in North Alabama. When I posted above that the email didn't work (my copy paste error caused that problem) a scammer sent me a phone number and tried to get me to venmo $. Be careful out there.
  5. About to replace my discs. Currently have (3) Lord J11968-14 on the nose and (4) Lord J11968-5 on each main. I can’t find any information about the J11968-5 donuts, doesn’t appear they are made anymore. I also need to buy or rent the gear tension rigging tools. Does anyone know where I might locate these tools? Anyone ever seen or heard of the Lord J11968-5 donuts before? original parts manual shows 3CRE714 discs, SBM20-139 installs Lord 530021. I believe J11968-14 is equivalent to 530021, but am not positive.
  6. It looks worse than it actually is. When doing the nose wheel, tightly chock both mains and as soon as you slide the nose wheel off, put a block topped with soft wood under the shaft so in the unlikely event something goes wrong the nose drops a total of about an inch and the wheel shaft is stopped by the wood. The rubber discs in the nose gear would do their job absorbing the blow. That system takes worse impacts with during a marginal landing, and the wood makes sure the shaft is not scuffed.
  7. No problems doing tire changes one wheel at a time, using materials readily available. A 1.25 inch socket, 1/2 inch drive worked to top the bottle jack and act as a receptacle for the lift point. Only had to lift about 4 inches for the wheel to clear the floor.
