  1. I belly landed my m20j last July, with instructor, while performing a power off precision landing, the gear warning horn was later found to be intermittent....still no excuse. It sucked! I was 2 days away from my commercial check ride. Good news was no one hurt, and minimal engine and belly damage. I see how easy it can be, now that I've done it. I used to look down my nose at people who had this happen to them...never again
  2. Also, I looked at those parts online. The prices are hard to beat! My old belly shark fin was longer and wider, so I may get a slight increase I speed with smaller antenna.
  3. Thanks fellas. Good news is that engine passed inspection and requires a few small replacement parts, crank gear, locking plate, etc. I appreciate the feedback. I have all skins ready to go and my mechanic will help me identify the replacement antennas. I was hoping to get a jump on purchasing those antennas, but I'll wait. I'm looking at flying again 2 weeks from now, if all goes well. Cheers T
  4. Hi gang, After suffering the dreaded belly landing last July, I nearly have my bird back up in the air. My last quest is to replace belly antenna. I'm not sure what some are, but have an idea. My avionics are all king, with rnav/DME vor, marker beacon, storm scope. Two identical blade like antennas fit on belly on either side of nose gear. Not sure what they are. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure that my large blade was a vor/DME. Question: are antennae for king equipment a specific brand? also looking for used equipment. Thanks Tb
  5. I use both the pin dock elf and the bad elf pro. They both work really well for signal,, but I would recommend the pro version, even though it costs a little more. The cheaper model that plugs into the iPad will get knocked loose really easily and you loose signal. Mine also stopped working after a few months and I got a replacement from the company at no cost. Go with the pro version. It works off its own batteries, can plug into cig lighter and is stand alone or worn around neck on a lanyard. It connects via Bluetooth to iPad, very quickly.
  6. Oh yea, the engine too. how could I forget that part.
  7. Let me know what you ended up doing to fix it. I have a similar problem, except mine was intermittent. It didn't end well for me.....I'm in the process of repairing the prop and underbelly.
  8. Hi, I'm looking for engine inlet plugs/covers for my m20j, Thanks Troy Patroy@live.com
  9. Hi, I'm interested in your nose gear door. Would it fit on a 1981 m20j 201? That is, if you still have it. Thanks
  10. That's true. Could have been covered in crud. I'll take a closer look next time.
  11. Thank you. That makes sense. I just remember seeing a prop off, at my mechanics shop. I quickly glanced at the hub and prop, then later on thought it was strange, but I probably didn't inspect it closely enough. Cheers Troy
  12. Ok. This may be a stupid question. What keeps the prop hub-to-crank from leaking oil? It's metal connected to metal, right? Seems like oil would make its way through. I had a teacher tell me once that, " there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people asking stupid questions."
  13. I'll look into this. Do you have a photo of the gauge by any chance?
  14. Thanks. For all the help and the offer on a prop. I actually found an exact replacement. Wish me luck.
  15. How hard is it to find a back plate, and is this prop airworthy?
  16. That sounds great, but talking to my mechanic, he says it would be a big chore to reconfigure from 2 blade to 3. I'll double check though. Thanks
  17. I just got notice that my old prop is finally dead after a prop strike. I'm looking for a loaner prop to ferry my bird just 3 miles away to my mechanics shop. I'm hesitant to drop a bunch of money on a new or used McCauley just to find out that the crank and gear are beyond my cost to repair. Anybody able to help or know numbers that I can call?
  18. I'm 6'3" 201 lbs. I fit with a few stops remaining, unlike a lot of other aircraft. The tail gives ramp illusion of being shorter. My brother is 6'6" 225 lbs, he fits in the passenger seat without issue. One thing you may want to consider is how much room you want for the passenger behind you. Best of luck.
  19. I'm still working on getting my new bird to the shop, and while I'm waiting for the prop....do you have any instruments for sale? I'm looking for a duel oat/egt. Or any egt for that matter
  20. I thought I was the only one with hands like that! Lol
  21. Great news and helpful advice. I'm getting more excited by the minute! It's a dream of mine to own an aircraft. I have about 80 hours in type and loved every minute. If all goes well, dream come true.
  22. Thank you Alan. I'll look into this. I did see the doors on eBay, but wasn't sure if they would fit. I think there was a blade vor/DME combo antenna that got completely sheared off. Yes, the wing step took some grinding and saved part of the belly. I was thankful for that! Ksmooniac: yea, I think the ferry process should be easy compared to the prop issue. I'm also crossing my fingers on the crank and engine status.
  23. Thank you, I may very well take you up on that offer. Now I just have to get her over to the shop for a better inspection. It may take me a few weeks.
  24. That's great n601rx, I'll run this by my mechanic, and see what he thinks.
