Been flying my new (to me) 252/Encore conversion for about 3 months now, so I'm still getting used to it in many ways. But one thing that is alarming is that I smell fuel in the cockpit rather strongly on short final sometimes. It seems to happen the most and be the strongest when I close the throttle completely if I'm coming in too high, for example. It may be the attitude (fuel moving forward in the tanks?) and not related to the throttle position, but I feel like I've noticed it more often when I've been too high (darn slippery airplane!) and cut the throttle abruptly. This is rather concerning... any ideas what is going on?

I was on the same mission to find an Encore or 252/Encore conversion back in September. I got lucky and found a great conversion with FIKI that is proving to be a beautiful airplane, but there was only one Encore on the market which was outside my price range and then the conversion I ended up with. I do sometimes wonder whether I was right to push for FIKI and if I'd be better off with the extra useful load. I'm not doing serious IFR flying yet so it's still not clear whether I'll need it but I'd rather have it and not wish I did later. When I was digging in, it looked like the cost of adding FIKI was much higher than the additional value (like most other upgrades), but that's hard open to opinion, I guess.
