I thought I might lookup the old flight school owner Wayne G. Simpson from when I was a teenager flying my dad's planes. To my disbelief and sadness what I found was an obituary of his death just this past Friday June 7, 2013. Old Pilots Never Die, They Just Fly Away - God Speed Wayne, thanks for the memories and say hi to my dad.

Just looked up the registration. It is current and the plane is a 1978 AA5A with a 0-320 Lycoming in it. So far so good.

Ipad battery discharging on airplane power

Not sure about the power fix itself, but you can turn off all of the unnecessary location services. -

OK, OK, didn't mean to get your emotions stirred up. 9.5 Hours in one though, that's a long day. I honestly wish I could have flown it a bit more just because my instructor (Do any of you know Ron Huddleston, he has a J?) said it would make me a better pilot. I even went as far as considering one for a time builder. I never did spin the thing, but did plenty of stalls. It stalls really nice I must say. Non event. I have been thinking about many of the posts on this subject and how some of you say don't use the aileron to mitigate the stall. I must admit I am scratching my head on that one. I was always taught to use the rudder. I guess I hadn't ever tried to use the aileron. Now, from what I have read, the Mooney rudder isn't as responsive as, say, a 152 or 172. Is this correct? Is this because of rudder travel limits, or surfice area, or maybe something else?

I've flown the Traumahawk. Hated that plane (the only plane I ever said that about). Yes it is a challenge. My instructor said If I can fly it well I would be a great pilot. I have read though that it can spin in a manner that is unrecoverable no matter how good the pilot is.

I asked at the airport today how much gas was. It is 2.72€ a liter. Jeeshe, I am in the wrong biz.

It reminded me of an F4 or an old Corsair. Looked kind of neat though. When I first pulled in out at the airport I saw a plane doing some aerobatics. I would have sworn it was a Mooney, but when it got closer, I realized it was not. Sure looked like it from so far away though.

That actually sounds just perfect. I need to build some time and experience. I have about twice as many hours as I can prove. I flew a lot when I was a teenager. I have no idea where that log book went or how to recreate it. Doesn't really matter though, that teenage experience I got was really, really, rusty when I started flying again in my 40s.

Thanks 29. I can't wait to get that thing off the ground. I have to get a current physical now that I have found something to fly.

That is sort of disconcerting Scott. I am afraid you and David are correct though. I try to get folks interested in aviation, but no one manages their money well anymore and hence they cannot afford it. Everyone I know, with very few exceptions, is dead broke. The thing that is keeping me from aircraft ownership right now is my location, and we are paying off all of our debt. When I buy, it will be with cash.

Took the Harley for a spin today out to my local St. Ghislain airport. Just wanted to see if any "N" aircraft were out there and enjoy the scene of a few take offs and landings. I was pleasantly surprised to see a C172SP with an N on the tail. The guy in the "control tower" (I use that term loosely) said it was privately owned. However, he said the flying club there owned a Grumman Cheetah that was N reg. I didn't get to look at it due to it being on a XC trip, but the control tower fellow is going to get me the info for the club (no one was around, they were all out flying I guess). He said it is just like the one in the pic. The 172 is in this pic too, I guess it has some maintenance issues. So, who on MooneySpace has ever flown a Cheetah? I can't wait to fly the thing and just get in the sky.

Have any of you read this book? Looking for a critique.

Question about this. If you don't check the stall speeds for your aircraft, how could you be sure of your Vref speeds for landing?

It was Oscar's fault, he asked a question.

I had to look that one up. LOL

Belgium is a unique country for sure. The south speak French, the north speak Flemish (Dutch) and the ones in Brussels won't give into each other so they speak English. I am just here to work for a couple years then time to move on somewhere else. I have had the opportunity to visit many of the countries around here. The food can be incredible. The Turks know how to put on a spread for sure. I think they have like 6 main courses. Belgians have their little boy peeing and French Fries. They grow a special potato and double cook it in a beef fat; the first time at a lower temp then again at a higher temp. It is a science for them I think. Bon Weekend!

That is wholly true. I am surrounded by so many folks from different countries it is incredible. So many different languages too. The only thing we all have in common is poor english! If you like bread, it is like a drug it is soooooo goooood!

Well, Belgium. Hmmm, people compare it to Maine. Very rainy and cloudy usually. As a VFR pilot it is difficult to get off the ground. As far as location though, it is tops! You can be in France, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, England, The Netherlands, and a host of other places in a matter of minutes to a few hours.

I realize as a low-time pilot that I generally don't have much to offer in the way of experience. But....I have really appreciated this forum and all the superb folks on here. In one of the first posts I made, one of you suggested I just read through the forum due to the wealth of knowledge that is on this site. Well, I have been doing that and it is amazing the willingness to help others that I have found, not to mention the "gentlemen" like attitude, and the untold knowledge that is here. Thanks to all of you for this virtual home. It is good to be accepted here, even if I don't own a plane yet. Bill

Tom Cruise is still around! LOL
