  2. Can anyone suggest a shop to install the Laser 201 windshield mod on my Mooney 20E June 2021
  3. Jesse, when did you do the 201 conversion?
  4. Any recommendations as where to go for the 201 mod? Someone who has done several of these and not a 1st timer.
  5. Not using much oil and engine is running good with 75/80 on all cylinders BUT I know its coming. Question is where is best place to get the cylinders overhauled? What is the most cost effective to zero time the engine? For sure I am replacing the Cam, any suggestions on the best cam? This is my first engine overhaul and look for guidance.
  6. I am looking forward to following your job to completion.
  7. Great Job, thanks for all of the photos. I will be doing my 75E model next year after panel upgrade. Your documentation makes others work much easier.
  8. Does anyone know of where I can get a panel template or a company that has a template for my Mooney. Notice in the picture on the right side the circuit breakers and tach our curved out. Maybe that is just cosmetic and I can put a flat panel in there. I would like to hear from anyone who has knowledge of the 75 E model panel I am doing an upgrade of all instruments, switches, circuit breakers and avionics. Thanks, Jim
  9. I own a 1975 M20E and am looking for a GOOD shop to put a new panel and glare shield in my bird.

  11. This is a re-post from an email I received. I would sign up but am in Florida and he needs Mooney people from the west coast. This is going to be great for us Mooney owners that want a low cost ($7,000 plus installation) autopilot. Mooney owners, The STC Group LLC has received FAA STC approval for the "Trio Pro Pilot" autopilot for Cessna 172, Cessna 175, and Cessna 182 aircraft. We are beginning a serious effort to add additional types to the STC. The STC Group, LLC is looking for a few Mooney owners who would like to collaborate with us out here in sunny Ventura County at Oxnard and Camarillo airports. Please contact us if you are interested. Hope to see you at Oshkosh next week. For more information please visit: www.thestcgroup.net Be Quick, Be Quiet, And Be On Time Paul C. Odum Paul C. 12. I bought my 1975 E model 3 years ago. I normally fly GPS (Foreflight) point A to B. The plane has all the Laser Mods including the wing tips. The VOR works ok, but I really only use it to fly the ILS. Finally after 3 years I was at the Avionics shop talking some upgrades and the guy point out that I don't have an VOR antenna on the tail. The original plate has been replaced and there are no antenna holes. I scratched my head and said that seems strange because everything works. After some research I discovered that Chief Aircraft sells a "Wing Tip" antenna for the Mooney. Before I start taking my plane apart does anyone the Laser wing tip mod and does it include a new VOR antenna? Thanks, Jim
  13. What brand alternator to buy? 2 years and 4 months ago, I replaced the alternator and regulator in my 1975 E model with a solid state regulator and a "Plane Power" alternator. Notice I said 2 years and 4 months. That is 4 months out of warranty and the noise (ac ripple) coming out of that thing is something terrible. Called Plane Power and they suggested a capacitor on the output. That didn't work. The whining noise in my headset made me shut down the electric bus after touchdown yesterday. Now the fact that I have to buy another alternator is just accepted. However, my question is what brand. I am not sure that I want to put another "Plane Power" alternator back on the bird. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim
  14. Who is Joey Cole? Does he specialize in fuel tank leaks on Mooneys?
  15. Maybe someone can help me with my stall warning problem. On takeoff (using V-R of 75 MPH) it buzzes until I am over 90 mile an hour. Not constant but on and off. It is clearly out of adjustment. I have looked it over and it does not seem bent incorrectly or anything. It also moves nicely. On landing, it goes off but I don't pay too much attention as by then I am over the runway and waiting for speed to bled off for touchdown.
  16. A can of aerosol contact cleaner and a good spraying of the Com Select Switch in the audio panel fixed the problem. I down loaded the schematic for the aircraft avionics wiring and also the internal wiring of the audio panel. Only item common to everything was the switch. Found out it was dirty. If this is of help to anyone else in the future, it was worth the write. Thanks for the responses. Jim
  17. I own a 75' E Model and I believe the Mic Relay is going bad. Tested the switch and have ruled that out. My panel is the original Collins Micro-Line package with the Collins AMR-350 audio panel with 3 light marker beacon. Does anyone know where the Mic Relay might be mounted? Thanks, Jim
  18. It is referred to as Zero time since Major Overhaul and I am based at X05 - Pilot County 20nm north of Tampa. I fly over to North Perry - KHWO sometime to visit friends.
  19. If someone has the procedure from the maintance manual please email it to me at jhluper@gmail.com Thanks, Jim
  20. I would like to THANK everyone for their input. After reading this, I called San Antonio Prop Shop and Hartzell tech support. Because the plane spent most of the past 20 years in the SW USA where it's dry we felt that corrosion would most likely not be a factor. Now on the other hand if the planed lived in Florida for the past 20 years corrosion could well be in the hub. Hartzell tech support gave me the minimum width on the last 5 stations on the blades and how to locate and measure them. They said that while my method of locating a station (point on the blade from center hub) is an estimate that it would give me an idea of how the blades measured up against standards. Too my surprise they had a lot of meat left in them. I contacted Aircraft Propeller Works in central Florida about 60 miles away. After talking to Art one of the owners I decided to go for the Zero time overhauled prop. My A&P pulled the prop last Monday and it now in many pieces. I spoke to them by phone yesterday and so far everything looks good. Art quoted me $2195 for the overhaul. That includes new bearings and seals from Hartzell. Once the prop is reinstalled on my plane one of his tech's will come to my home field and Dynamic balance it for an additional $250. I will let you know how everything turns out next week. Jim
  21. I called Lasar and was told that the torque setting on the nose gear is set by measuring the front bungee. Was also told I could find details in the maintenance manual. Does anyone have a copy of these instructions? Thanks
  22. Here is the question. My 3 blade prop is now 19 years old and has 1100 hours on it. Should I have it overhauled? It works great and show no sign of problems. Maybe I could replace it with a newer low time prop. I own a 1975 E model and they replaced the original 2 blade prop with the 3 blade in 1994. Any thoughts or suggestions? I I were looking for a low time prop to replace it where would you look? Thanks, Jim
  23. LASAR is shipping me a new $275.04 plus shipping....... You know I changing that out before my next flight..........Thanks
  24. Electric Landing Gear Switch on Instrument Panel It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Florida as my wife and I were returning home from lunch on Lake Weir. Cursing along at 2500 feet for the short flight to Tampa, I pointed out another airplane 1000 feet above me. My wife leaned forward and put her hand or arm on the glare shield just below my compass. That is when IT happened, PUCKER FACTOR!!!!!!! Well, as it turned out the glare shield pushed down on the Landing Gear switch and it moved to the DOWN position. Now I am wondering if I just need a new switch that has better switch position tit's. The one's that make you pull out to move the switch or I check to see if I can install a metal shield above the switch or a brace on the glare shield???????????? Any thoughts on this from anyone. I don't want to make a habit of my gear dropping in cruise flight...... If this has happened to you, where did you get the parts to fix it. Thanks, Jim
