wiseng Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 Has anyone installed one of these? I have a 1978 J model and was wondering. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 I have one on my M20K and really like it. Gulf Coast Avionics did the install for me at LAL. Quote
fantom Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 Has anyone installed one of these? For those, like me, who aren't exactly sure what 'one of these' is: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/sirs_compass2.php Quote
jwilkins Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 Aircraft Spruce and Chief reported that the Mooney Mounts for the SIRS are no longer in production. SIRS confirmed through Spruce that 1) the parts are no longer in production and 2) they have no interest in supplying a part or a drawing to allow me to make a mount, and no interest in allowing me to make mounts for other Mooney owners. I could probably CNC an aluminum mount in low quantities and black anodize it for the original cost of the SIRS Mooney mount SIRS declined to answer direct inquiries I sent to them. I did get them to admit they received the messages, but they responded through Spruce. Nice product; odd customer support. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 I had mine installed yesterday and with a little modification it mounts nicely to the center post in my J. Very nice and a definate upgrade over my old whiskey compass that had leaked dry. Quote

Can you post a photo showing how it was mounted? JIm Quote
wiseng Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 I called Spruce and asked for the SIRS (10-00948) hole center distance. Was told it was 1 1/16". The Airpath I have looks at least 1 3/4". At the very least another hole will need to be drilled through the centerpost. You could probably make some sort of adapter plate out of some 8 guage aluiminum. I also would like to see a picture of the recently installed, Quote
