Hello Mooney Friends,

my bird is scrap metal due to corrosion in the wing, secondary spar etc. Now I am parting it out.  A friend wants to use my new leather seats from my J in his 1980 K-model. The front seats seem to fit, but how about the rear seats and the side panels? Should they be interchangeable? Thanks for the advise!

Sorry to hear of your situation.

They should fit just fine, perhaps the side panels might need mods if he has built-in oxygen.  Are your rear seats removable buckets, or the fixed bench seat?  If they're removable (1982 or later) they will make a very desirable upgrade but will take a fair amount of labor to remove the mechanisms and brackets and transplant them into the earlier plane.

EDIT:  I just went back to your earlier monster thread and got caught up... sorry about your trials over the last year or more, but glad your wife seems to be on the mend!  She is far more important than your Mooney project.

Your seats are VERY desirable, especially if the fronts articulate vertically.  The full set including the rear seat brackets and mechanisms are a nice upgrade for 80%+ of the fleet and should fetch thousands of dollars if you sell them.

The engine, mount, baffling and cowling might be very desirable for an E/F (or even C/G) owner looking to modernize their firewall-forward if they can navigate the STC/337 route with their respective aviation authorities.

Gear doors are typically in demand too if yours are not corroded badly.  Ditto for control surfaces, but I suspect they're all rotten.  :(  Hopefully your panel stuff and perhaps autopilot components are all in good working condition.  Gear actuators are becoming more important too, so don't give yours away.  Speaking of gear, if your belly and retract rods are in good condition, you should have no trouble selling a gear-up repair kit.  Wheels, nose gear truss, etc. are all desirable.

I parted-out a 1981 J long ago and can help with questions if you have any.  Alan Fox does it for a living now and he might be willing to make an offer on bulk if it makes sense and you don't want to spend the next year or more selling things one at a time.
