tim417 Posted April 1 Report Posted April 1 I just called AWI and they want to sell me an OH muffler for $1600 and change plus tax and shipping. They said they won’t repair something if they have the PMA part in stock. PlaneExhaust.net said they are making a die to work on these mufflers but they are not ready to start working on them as of yet. Custom Aircraft Parts in El Cajon said they can repair it for about $950 or so and two week turnaround. 1 Quote

I can't vouch for these guys yet, but my mechanic recently sent an exhaust part to these guys for crack repair: https://planexhaust.com/ Quote

They arent ready to work on these ribbed exhaust bodies until their die is made. Really nice people on the phone, though. 1 Quote
33UM20C Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 There's a shop in Florida called Plane Exhaust. Highly recommend using anyone but them. They fully rebuilt my exhaust and baffling. Riser cracked within a few months which was found at its next annual. Shop was contacted and said they would not be fixing it as it was (approx. 3 days) over the 1 year warranty. The first part lasted 59 years for reference. I had it repaired by a local shop, I called them to ask for a %50 refund to pay for the fix, upon finding out it was fixed they asked me to send it to them "for free repair" I obviously did not. The owner is completely awful to talk to, he insulted and yelled at me for 5 min on the phone before hanging up on me. Out of spite for how annoyed I was with they're customer service I pestered them for a refund. Owner finally offered me $100 back (%15 or so back). I accepted the offer and never received the money. Its been 2 months so I don't think its coming. Quote
tim417 Posted April 13 Report Posted April 13 Ah that’s too bad. I spoke to them and they seemed helpful over the phone but ended up buying a new muffler from AWI. Turns out one of the studs on my original muffler was bent resulting in a leak. This along with the flame tubes being crushed helped me justify the $1600 for the new muffler. Quote
