The-sky-captain Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 In prepping for my IR checkride my instructor was going over a list of what was needed to fly IFR. One of the things he mentioned was an anti collision light on the tail or belly of the plane. My 77 J has neither but I do have wing tip strobes and and position lights. What do other M20J's out there have?
KSMooniac Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 My '77 J also has just the wingtip strobes. They can be seen from all angles around the plane, so it is legal.
Guest Anonymous Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 Wehlen has a very good overview document on their website as to current requirements. Lots of older Mooneys are "grandfathered" with systems that were done under the rules at the time of manufacture. The-sky-captain Posted September 4, 2009 Author Report Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks for the imput guys!
skyking Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Hi Guys: I put a new high intensity strobe on the belly of mine and removed the old rotating beacon and also new wingtip lights and a new white light on the tail. Not cheap. The belly strobe alone was over $1500 Canadian installed. Wingtips: $2500 installed and tail light $500 bucks ( that one was a bargain...LOL) russ
