Steve Dawson Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 Just wondering if anyone has a set of lower gear doors for a 78 Monney M20J? Believe a K model will work also. Thanks, Steve Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 I have a pair as-removed from my '77 J. Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 He is in the process of buying my old pair, Jim. I "upgraded" to the lower profile fiberglass doors hoping for a knot or two, but that didn't happen. The only advantage I see now is better durability over the aluminum version...but I'm not sure that is worth the effort and expense. Quote
Kwixdraw Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 Scott, Did the low profile doors go with the brake caliper rotation mod? Did they allow you to remove the fairings behind the wheel well? Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 Yes to all of the above... it certainly is a lot "cleaner" under there, but at the end of the day it didn't seem to help measurably. I'm sure the fiberglass lower doors are more durable, though, so that is nice. Quote
Kwixdraw Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Thanks. I was debating doing this to mine. I have one of those fairings aft of the wheel well that got damaged to the point that I took it off. It was bare metal under there with lots of corrosion so I figured I would take the other one off before painting. Since they were off it seemed like a good time to be rid of them. The gear doors are pretty hammered too from dirt strip ops. Quote
