pilot716 Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 I need 2 plexi covers for the recog. lights on the outboard "K" model wings, any suggestions? Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Ouch. Did you melt yours? Should be about $220 each Then maybe an hour per side to fit... Quote
pilot716 Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 yes, they did....they should not be used when on the ground......so far $135 each.....shop wanted $250 each. Quote

Ned Gravel Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Good to know. I just had the wingtip and tail strobes put on a difference switch from the belly one so it can now act as a recognition light. We don't normally get 100+ degree days at the places I fly to so I am glad that I can now move along the ramp and taxiways using only the belly recognition light. I can now refrain from switching on the wingtip strobes (good practice anyway) and the nav lights (having learned something here today) until I reach the runway threshold Thanks for the idea... Quote

Ned Gravel Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Quote: Parker_Woodruff Strobes won't cause the melt. It's the steady white forward facing recognition lights. Quote
pilot716 Posted April 19, 2011 Author Report Posted April 19, 2011 The A&P said this was also in the POH..learn something new everyday. It is only the recog lights not the strobes. we have been doing a lot of night flying and we were leaving them on so lesson learned. Lasar has them in stock. Quote
tyrefoote Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Does anyone know of a solution to the recog light problem, heat melting lens. I have called Whelen but have not heard back yet. Quote
pilot716 Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 Our A&P said don't use them when not moving. The airflow is the only thing that keeps them cool. Quote
