  1. Can anybody with an E or C with a doghouse who has installed the Gee-Bee seals post a picture or share a link? Detailed PIREP on the install would be nice too. Thanks!
  2. So, I am now understanding why I have had high cylinder temps with my engine. The baffle seal is completely shot and I am beginning to wonder if the lower portion has ever been changed (see photo). The top seal is a patchwork of various black and orange pieces so while we are working a cylinder issue I've decided to replace the seals. Does the front lower cowl need to come off completely to get at the row of rivets, or is there some trick (like a partial removal)? Thanks!
  3. Hi all, My G model is in the shop getting an avionics upgrade, and during this time I'm taking advantage of the hangar space and fixing a few odds and ends (cleaning, lubricating, etc.) I pulled off the upper cowling and noticed a few gaps and cracks in the doghouse plenum. Nothing major or structural, but many on this forum have indicated that filling those gaps can really improve engine cooling (my temps are rather high, since I don't have any of the cowling mods). I was wondering what brand silicon sealant others have used? They have various brands available at home improvement and auto parts stores, but I wasn't sure exactly what to look for or if I need to purchase something specific to aircraft applications. Thanks!
  4. All the talk about cowl modifications and upgrades reminds me: my A&P/IA and I had to make some repairs to my poor doghouse. One side has a crack that's been stop-drilled but is continuing to grow. The other side had worn enough that it would not engage as the center piece that went into the slot on the spark plug cover had worn off. Forty years of remove & replace had taken its toll. The double-edge on the removable piece is worn badly but still engages. It is serviceably repaired now. We cut off the ragged edge of the non-removable center section, screwed an extension onto the back side of the spark plug cover using the original mounting holes, and made new mounting holes. Total parts increase of a half-dozen screws. Don't I remember an STC to remove the doghouse from my O-360 and replace it with new baffles? Is it still available, and where? Sure would be nice to get rid of my not-so-nice doghouse . . . Won't have to worry anymore about doing the next restoration, or what to do if it's not so easily fixable.
