  1. So I started chasing ratings now that I have had my 201 for a couple of years now... On June 22nd I finally earned my Instrument Airplane Rating. I used N86BF. On August 29th I got my sUAS Remote Pilot Certificate On August 31st I earned my Commercial Airplane Single Land. I used N86BF On September 11th I added MultiEngine Land to my Commercial privileges removing the multi VFR Only restriction. I used a PA44, but I used N86BF to get to KGKY for the Checkride. On October 16th I added Rotorcraft Gyroplane Commercial to my Commercial privileges. I used a MTO Sport Gyroplane, but I again used N86BF to get me to KSRC for the checkride. The Mooney 201 has made time building great, and has pulled me through or to the checkrides..
  2. Many intelligent, highly experienced Mooney pilots on the forum. Kindly ask your advice. Rather than commute from MSP (Minneapolis) to XNA (Arkansas) each week for work am considering obtaining my pilots license and instrument rating, and purchasing a fast / efficient Mooney. Economics are close to breakeven, but the upside is I obtain a useful skill. My concern is weather. Is it reasonable for me to believe I could regularly make this trip (fly down Monday morning, fly back up on Friday afternoon)? More specifically, how flexible (due to weather) would my schedule likely have to be in order for me to believe I could pull this off??? Many thanks...
  3. Hey all - have a very specific question - and a quick search of the forums didn't come up with an answer. Has anyone worked out the optimal power settings and speeds for the set of commercial maneuvers in an Ovation? I'm going to finish up my commercial soon, and know that the right settings are key to making every maneuver easier - and haven't worked it out yet. Has anyone already done this and would care to share their recommendations? Steep turns, chandelles, lazy eights and eights on pylons? thanks in advance! Greg
  4. I'm curious on which one people feel gives a better understanding of your airplane. I have about 20 hours in my Mooney, and can't say that I'm 'comfortable' with it yet. Knowing that an instrument rating will help with 'precision' while a commercial rating pushes the pilot/airplane unit towards the edges of the envelope; which one would you conquer first? The current plan is to get both...but looking for input.
  5. I'm going to try to get my CFI in my M20J. I'm starting to practice maneuvers , specifically Steep Turns, Steep Spirals, Lazy Eights, Chandelles, Eights on Pylons, and Slow Flight (clean and dirty). Can anyone suggest, as a starting point, power (prop setting and manifold pressure) that works well for these maneuvers ? Thanks!
