Take a look at the back of your main spar.

Mirrors may help, or use a small camera to inspect the entire aft side of the main spar. Look in all the nooks, corners and crannies.-

I have resisted posting in this thread since I really prefer Mooneyspace to be non-political/non-partisan. We all love Mooneys and that's really all that's important to participate on this forum. However, I got these two "things" in my email and really didn't know what to do with them....I hope you enjoy them in the spirit they were posted. TOP-10 "Only In America" Observations ~ by a Canadian: 1) Only in America, could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event. 2) Only in America, could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black. 3) Only in America, could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes. 4) Only in America, can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the msm media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash. 5) Only in America, would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens. 6) Only in America, could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists." 7) Only in America, could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote. 8) Only in America, could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike). 9) Only in America, could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money. 10) Only in America, could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all. The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or confusing. Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America: 1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized. 2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims. 3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government. 4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer. 5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about. 6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries. Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century. Makes you wonder who is doing the math. These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment: 1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works. And here's another one worth considering... 2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked" for their money, but the second didn't. Think about it..... and Last but not least, 3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens??? Am I the only one missing something!? And now....back to our regular Mooney adulation.....

KNS 80 Nav wanted and pirep on avionics shop 52F
Mooneymite replied to lsearcy's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
After my debacle with the Garmin antenna locking all GPS signals out, I have decided that having a KNS80 would be a really good back up! http://mooneyspace.com/topic/11114-garmin-430w-gps-antenna-problem/?hl=antenna If I had one, I would definitely NOT remove it.- 11 replies

How high can you take a M20C?
Mooneymite replied to Oscar Avalle's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I was a genius prior to all the altitude chamber training I got in the Navy. However, after killing all those brain cells, I am now a certified moron. Be careful. There's a reason you get stupid at altitude. I don't really think you need to experience it to avoid it. If your fingernails are blue, you are hypoxic. -

Lasar posts a chart at: http://www.lasar.com/userfiles/file/Mooney-Specification-and-Performance-Guide.pdf which lists the 'C' service ceiling as 17,500'. Of course "service ceiling" isn't the same as "how high can you go", but I wouldn't plan a cross country higher than that. -

ADS-B is coming-What are you doing about it?
Mooneymite replied to cliffy's topic in General Mooney Talk
I took my Hatrz for its transponder check today and discussed my Mooney ADS-B with the technician. He agreed that for me, the KT-76 hooked up to my 430W would be all I needed: Just under $3000 all set to go. However, he pointed out that "value-wise", I'm getting a lot more bang-for-my-buck with a GDL-88 installation: right at $5000. If I do the KT-74, I really only have half the solution at 3/5 the cost. Traffic/weather, etc. all displayed on my 430 and he assured me the GDL-88 would be "forward compatible" if I ever upgraded my panel. Ah..,,,back to analysis paralysis. -
Wow!

The KT-74 is listed as $2649.00 at AircraftSpruce. As far as I can tell, the KT-74 and the APX340 are roughly equivalent, what "street prices" are you seeing for the APX340? Any advantages of one over the other? -

Mooneymite replied to cliffy's topic in General Mooney Talk
If I had to pull the trigger right now, the BK KT-74 would probably be my choice since I already have a KT-76A and a Garmin 430W. However, there are some interesting developments at other companies that are giving me "analysis paralysis". Window shopping is a lot cheaper than buying/installing. -

. What am I doing about it? Waiting until the solution is so clear and so cheap that I get off my lazy arse and do something. -
. I strongly disagree!

Sure, you can fly through a cloud while flying VFR, but it's illegal unless you can maintain the necessary visibility. In other words, a " very thin" cloud (mist) that you can see through is okay. Anytime you fly into a cloud, your expectation should be that a B-777 on an IFR clearance will be inside it.

They've never built an aircraft too powerful, or a runway that's too long! Ain't it great?

While approach speed over-the-fence has a bearing on rollout, it is the actual touchdown speed that most affects the rollout distance. I think there is a lot of "technique variation" on speed after crossing the fence. Some guys I fly with believe that the over-the-fence speed is what you hold into the flare; some believe that over the fence is where you pull the engine to idle and declerate below that 1.3 speed. I've seen all sorts of techniques, but strangely, the segment between over the fence and touch down is rarely discussed with respect to speed. Personally, unless it's gusty, I always touch down well below the 1.3 speed. On my 'C', the trim indicator is about an index width (or so) above the takeoff setting and that seems to work out about right even for a balked landing. I'd be interested in other views.
