  1. Hi Browncbr1, It's still too early yet to determine a price. I know what some of the components cost, but not everything yet. Thanks, David
  2. Since several posts were lost during a Mooneyspace software update, I'll repost some of the information. The airflow for my cowling will be similar to the Vans aircraft RV series running the same engine as the Mooney and with the air filter in the left cylinder cooling air inlet. Not a lot of new engineering required. Thanks, David
  3. Hi Byron, Fiberglass cloth with flame resistant resin. Hi Clarence, thank you. David
  4. Saw the news story on Facebook. From the one picture, looks to be an older Mooney. Sad.
  5. I thought I'd post a few more pictures of the new cowling mod installation progress. Also included a picture of the completed new carb air box. Looking forward to having this on and complete. Thanks, David
  6. Hi Hank, there are these two parts and a panel that mounts under the carb airbox between the cowl flaps that will be changed and require paint. I'm not sure if I'll post a picture of the full installation here or wait to reveal it at Oshkosh if I make it. If I don't make it I'll post plenty of pictures here. Thank you, David
  7. I have the actual new cowling parts in my hand. I'll start the installation of them this weekend. I think they turned out really nice and am looking forward to seeing how they look on my Mooney. Here's a few pictures of the molds and the completed parts. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thank you, David
  8. One more question, does the J maintenance manual give torque specs for the hardware of the nose landing gear or do they reference using the standard torque called out for by bolt size? Thank you, David
  9. A big thank you to everyone for their help!! David
  10. That would be great. My e-mail is sabremech at gmail.com. Thank you, David
  11. Does anyone have a copy of the nose gear installation drawing from the J model IPC? I'm looking for a detailed drawing showing the installation of the bushings and spacers, etc. Thank you, David
  12. Thank you for the information. I'll have to weigh both options and decide which way to go. David
  13. Today I started on SB 217 installing a doubler on the aft spar to remedy cracks. In the instructions it says to remove the baggage floor. Has anyone here removed the baggage floor? Looks to be a bit of a pain. Here's a picture of the crack. David
  14. I'm going to save the $25 per oil change which equates to $1000 over 2000 hr TBO and 50 hour oil changes. That $1000 can be spent on avgas.
  15. That's some of the best information on the real world life of our engines. Very much the same opinion that I hold and hence my not using any additives etc. Thank you, David
  16. A few more update photos. One is of the new carb air box installed to check for fit and the other two photos are of the air filter duct mold. I'll make the air filter duct out of fiberglass for the prototype and then evaluate it for the STC. Thanks, David Matt, Sean declined saying he was too busy with a T-33, his new favorite airplane!
  17. If all goes well and my Mooney is back together, I plan on bringing it up Friday the 17th and park in the North 40 somewhere. If space is available and I'm able to move up by the Caravan Mooney's, I'll do my best to get it there. Thank you, David
  18. Hi Houman, You're going to enjoy working and learning on your airplane! It seems it takes me 2-3 weeks to get my annuals done. The gear tool should be delivered tomorrow. David
  19. I'll be there and hope it will be with my Mooney and the new cowling. David
  20. Hi flyntgr1, the baffling will be part of the STC and the air filter will be relocated, so yes you will need to install the new baffling to sign off the STC. Hi Matt, I really hope to have my airplane at Osh so people can see this up close versus showing parts and pictures. It's going to be close as to whether I make it or not right now. Thanks, David
  21. As I wait for the actual new cowling pieces, I'm working on the new baffling and getting it to a stopping point. Here's a few photos of the baffle work in progress. David
  22. I found leather to be a problem for the gear boot in my 66C. The overlapping seams caused binding between the gear handle and wheel well cover and the leather would not flex enough when the flat part of the boot was glued to the floor. Mine is made out of leather and a flexible material similar to Lycra around the handle to allow it to flex with the handle movement. Just my personal .02. David
  23. Working on it steadily but nothing worthy of a picture yet. It's looking like I'll make Oshkosh with it for anyone interested in seeing how the prototype turns out. Thanks, David
  24. A long time.
  25. I have 1850 SMOH and no Camguard.
