  1. Under the section "Other Instruments and Markings" in the original version (9/27/1976) of the manual stated "Vacuum Gage Normal Operating range (Green Arc) 4.5 to 5.0 Hg." At some point in a subsequent version, that sentence was removed from the manual in it's entirety; I checked the PDF available from the factory USB manual collection and the most current version of that page is 11/15/77 and the sentence was removed. The Table of Change on Revision G 3/7/84 lists that Page 2-9 as "Original" and unchanged. So I have two questions. First, the practical one -- if the face of the Vacuum Gauge had to be repainted for some reason, and the most current version of the POH doesn't specify the valid values for the green arc, how will the instrument shop know what to paint? The second question is, does anyone remember why something like this would be removed between 9/76 and 11/77 and which "original" page is the valid page. Can the values from 9/76 be used if that page has been superseded? Thanks. Chris
  2. Interesting comments. I've previously been told by several people that I consider knowledgeable to remove the ram air system as being useless. Does the 1/2" MP increase overcome the speed penalty for having a hole in the cowling? - (Also a 77J) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Ok. Thanks. I'll PM you about the baggage door.
  4. I'm looking for: -- a pilot's side battery access panel (preferably with the ground power door built in) -- a baggage compartment door (preferrably with the interior escape latch mod) -- a once piece belly pan (a reasonably priced, doesn't need to be a speed models) I've checked with LASAR, Beegles and Texas Aero with no joy. Any other junkyards? What is the best way to acquire these parts in the least number of AMUs? Other projects that are on my wishlist / need advice list: -- Moving the fuel selector switch to the center floor (acquired a M20S fuel selector). -- Tank reseal / extended range Monroy Tanks (leaning toward Weep No More). -- Replacement of Ram Air opening with a taxi light. Anything else that should be on my wishlist? Thanks! Chris
  5. My temperature sensor for the Garmin GTX 330 is installed in the co-pilot airscoop. I wish he had asked me before he put it there. I'll have to double check tomorrow where it is for the JPI.
  6. Found.
  7. Is the fuel selector switch, fuel selector assembly and related plumbing intact?
  8. Is the 530 WAAS? How much are you asking for the MX-20? Does this include the corresponding antennas and other accessories?
  9. True. I do have to shake it and I usually go counter clockwise so as to not miss any. Sometimes I'll go around twice and gently test each one on the second pass.
  10. I'm 5'9" and have a 1977 201 M20J and the trouble that I have is reaching the fuel selector switch on the floor under my legs while the seat is in the correct position for full rudder authority. If the seat is back far enough so that it is comfortable (relatively) to reach and manipulate the swtich then my feet are barely on the pedals. Since I do not believe that there is an STC to move the swtich, I think my choices are the rudder pedal extensions or to lose 30 lbs and take up yoga. As I understand it, they moved the switch within a few years in the J and subsequent models to the floor near the center console so that both pilots could reach it.
  11. Mine are all 100s. One of them is a flathead instead of phillips, but I've been meaning to replace it.
  12. I notice that Knots2U has a LED landing light bulb in their Mooney section which they list as a "PAR 36". Is this a suitable replacement bulb for all Mooneys, or for only some models? {EDIT} I just read Stan's STC, and now I understand the difference between a PAR 46 and a PAR 36. Should have read before I posted! {/EDIT} Thanks.
  13. Thank you for posting the picture of your panel. It's very clean and functional, and I like the options that this layout gives. Happy New Year!
  14. Quote: sheetsg This is the same question I went through a few months ago. Where I ended up was a G430W and a panel mounted Aero 560 with XM weather. What this gave me was WAAS legal approach capability and better graphic capability for XM weather (more pixels and more colors than 430 or 530). I had the avionics install a crossfill from my 430 to Aero so that I can view the graphical flight plan and the "numbers" from the G430 display. Operationally, the 530 does not provide any additional capability, so it was hard for me to justify the addition $4k or $5k price tag. For $2k, the Aero provides a good display, and when panel mounted is out of the way (i.e. not cables nor yoke clutter). Good luck on your upgrade. Greg
  15. Quote: steelerp There is a problem with the structure in the 77 Mooney. Check out my pics or see this youtube clip The radio guy had planned on installing at the top and working down. He was unable to due to the structure. So, he started at the bottom and worked up. Rick
