  1. There are several things I see replies to this thread missing: 1) There is virtually no strength in fiberglass resin alone. 2) You should not just buy fiberglass resin at your boat yard. You want to use either a Class I flame retardant resin or use an additive like antimony trioxide per the manufacturer's specifications to convert a lower grade flame retardant resin (like Class II) to a Class I flame retardant resin. 3) Honeycomb or channeling (fiberglassing over foam strips) is a good stiffening method. 4) Use a good grade structural fiberglass cloth which can be purchased at aircraft spruce. 5) Use peel-ply and try to get as much resin out of your hand lay-up as possible. 6) besure to clean, sand, roughen all surfaces to bare fiberglass before applying new fiberglass.

  3. I weighed the step today. The step itself weighs 3.5 lbs. The vacuum canister, mounting bracket and pulley cable is 1.4 lbs. John Breda
  4. Mooney printer various versions of the Maintenance Manuals and Parts Manuals. I would love to see a copy of these and the Owner's Manual for a 1968 F to compare differences. If you have it on electronic media, can you e-mail to johnabreda@yahoo.com Thanks, John Breda
  5. I have been looking at this problem as well. I believe removing the step and its system is about 7-9 lbs. I have not weighed the step itself as of yet but having had it out I am expect it to be about 4-5 lbs at least. I think the step is needed for safety getting on/off the wing. I am considering remaking the step from other materials, either aluminum or carbon fiber. Corbon fiber can be structually compatible and can be purchased in square tubes. With this arrangement, you might be able to eliminate the spring that raises the step sine weight would be much less. Does anyone have any experience in making structural parts from carbon fiber? My e-mail is johnabreda@yahoo.com John Breda
  6. I did this modification using Mooney parts (removed from an Ovation), DER approval and 337. You can e-mail me at johnabreda@yahoo.com if you want to chat more about this. John Breda

  10. I am curious about the ranges in empty weights and useful loads of the F and J models out there. The modified airplanes will probably be heavier so please let me know if yours is original or what modifications have been made. E owners feel free to chime in as well but the numbers will be different. Thanks for your info. John Breda
  11. I have a completely rebuilt original RayJay Turbo Normalizer system for sale. This system has been rebuilt with thicjer pipes and beefier wastegate and is better than the original. It comes with both STC's for mounting the system onto the engine (IO-360) and mounting the turbo normalized engine into the E or F airframe. It has all drawings and installation manuals. I can provide either a completely rebuilt turbo or one with 400 hours on it if you want to save some dollars. There are numerous posts of this site of owners attesting to the benefits of this system. If interested, please e-mail at johnabreda@yahoo.com I can send pictures on request. I also have an extra set of exhaust piupes for those of you who already own this system but wish to have a replacement set of exhaust pipes for when the current set wear out.

  15. For all of you that have wanted to turbo-normalize your F or E model Mooney, I have a completely rebuilt RayJay kit with all of the documentation including the two required STC's, all the reference diagrams, install manual, FAA approved POH letter and drawings. I will not be using it and it is available for sale. The turbo and scavenger pump have both been rebuilt with proper return to service documentation and the exhaust pipes and wastegate have all been completely rebuilt saving only the smallest of parts (so they are really new parts). The wastegate was built heavier than the original part (the originals were made from exhaust pipe thickness materials and would warp and change shape from the heat, thus the complaints of the wastegate problems by owners posting to this thread). This is the closest you will get to a new RayJay turbo system for an E or F. As you all know this stuff is pretty rare these days. See pictures below which show the major parts. I also have a second set of newly rebuilt exhaust pipes and wastegate for anyone who has a RayJay system installed but wants a set of spare parts for the shelf. You can e-mail me at johnabreda@yahoo.com for more information. Thanks, John Breda
