  1. Wouldn't that cause the egt to rise in the #5? all egt stayed constant.
  2. While droning along at 16,500 today, #5 CHT shot up 25 degrees while all other CHTs dropped by 20 deg. The other five cylinders came back up, but the #5 stayed at 378 until I opened the cowl a little, but was still 25-35 deg hotter? I have not had a chance to open her up and take a look yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  3. Thanks Ken. We'll make it in the Mooney eventually. A tour guide is always welcome. Merry Christmas.
  4. Have New Years plans in Sedona. I am based in the Northeast and cannot seem to find a safe way out west due to weather. I hope to get out early next week. The pictures look great!!
  5. Thought i had a fouling/leaning issue. #4 was always the 'fouled' plug. My mechanic didn't think it was a plug issue since it was an almost new fine wire properly gapped. Had him switch plugs around anyway. Problem followed the plug. Turns out plug was giving a very weak spark.
  6. You can convert 252 s/n 25-1000 thru 25-1230 to an 'encore'. See Mooney dwg#940141 for details. Essentially new engine 'SB' 220 hp, new balance weights on the control sfc, and dual cylinder brakes. book #s slightly faster in cruise & better climb at the same gw. runs cool, I like it.
  7. After start-up lean to rpm drop, enrichen. Just remember, mixture full forwrd for runup. If still fouling, i would suspect lead buildup on the plug.
  8. Earlier this year I bought my first Mooney, 252. My mission is Colorado and i love watching the altimeter wind up while climbing in the teens. I would advise that if you go the turbo route, get TKS known ice and the best avionics you can. These will cost you more in time & $$ later.
  9. Thank you for the link. I found it very helpful.
  10. FWIW...I have a 252 with a TSIO360SB that had 700 hours. Couple of cyl had low compression #s. #1 was 61. Did oil analysis, they told me I might want to try AVBLEND. 30 hrs later #1 is up to 68. All other cyl are higher as well. Was told these TSIOs get carbon build up after 600 hours or so.
  11. Roundout's comments are good. In my experience, I found the ships guages in my 252 not to be too reliable. If the plane is doing the book #s, you are prob ok.
  12. Why I went turbo
  13. This is one reason I decided to go Turbo.
  14. I had a similar problem. Turned out to be a bad connector from the voltage regulator. Good luck
  15. Anyone have a suggestion on best place to mount a 696. Don't have the room to mount in the panel.
  16. Traced the problem to my Garmin 696 mounted on the yoke. Too heavy. In a climb the back momentum was overpowering the servos, then A/P cut out. Need to find a better way to mount it.
  17. Your suggestions sound very reasonable. Thanks so much! Jack
  18. Thanks for your comments. The bank angle stays constant(approx. 20 deg). Was wondering if the Mooney's electric trim just has trouble keeping up with the changing fwd/back pressure needed, when it does 'catch up' it may exceed the accelerometer in the A/P.
  19. As a new Mooney pilot, I'm still getting aquainted with my new M20K Encore. When I have the A/P on(HDG & ALT), then turn the heading bug >30 deg, sometime(not all the time) in the turn, I will feel a strong G load & A/P will disconnect! This never happens when I'm watching carefully, although I have seen ALT excursions of more than 70 ft during the turn. Any thoughts?
