  2. Quote: HopePilot Well, because there is basically only one employee left at Mooney (sic), I was told to expect a lead time of 90 days! Maybe I should start predicting what else I'll need 90 days from now so it'll be ready for me when the time comes. If I was rebuilding the panel from scratch, I would probably do this: http://www.aveoengineering.com/Aviation/Airplane_Accessories/rocker_switches/RockRackClassic/index.php

    ADSB

Quote: Guillaume Where did you read that ? It would be good move for GA in europe. If TIS-B (over 1090ES) is provided in europe, the Trig TA60 series ADS-B receiver looks promising.

    ADSB

Quote: crxcte The new implementation of ADSB for traffic, flight information, and weather has already occurred in in many locations (FL, Gulf, AK, etc). Anyone know what it will take to get the weather and information? I know the GTX330 will get the traffic for a 530w or 430w but wonder what is coming down from design on new systems that will support ADSB. Anyone have any recommendations for owners?
  8. Quote: Magnum That sounds good. Here is a discussion with a video comparison between the Sunspot and GE4553: http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=59923
  9. Quote: Magnum In the nose is a PAR46 bulb. They have one that sems to fit (90352 Series), but no STC.
  10. I have fown about 300Hrs in Gliders and about 150 in Motorgliders (from Grob's to ASW20's competitiion glider) and I have owned a motorglider before I purchased my Mooney doing my emergencies was just a piece of cake (IN fact I loved when the Instructor pulled the power at least I could focus on flying the aircraft... It was emotionaly difficult to sell my motorglider as the flying was great it lacked the four places though and the speed for long distance flights..Cant have it all I guess. I am sure that gliding ecperience makes you a much better Pilot as you understand much better the aerodynamic limitations. The landing technique in a modern Glider comes in handy when converting to a Mooney..
  11. Quote: OR75 Do I understand correctly that the Galactica wing tip position/strobe light does not require a strobe power supply box ? could be a great option when those old hoskins box break.
  12. Quote: DaV8or Wow. That sucks. There is no good "green" replacement for it. You guys are now stuck with ugly, expensive lighting. Soon we will too. The new deal is as Europe goes, so goes the US.
  13. I removed the whoopy light assy from the bottom and just installed a/c sheet metal round disc with some screws. I am concidering two options now, after recieving the positive news from Christian Nielsen from aveo that even EASA STC paperwork will be handled: Go for the the BaronXP blitz light its only 4cm (1.5") hi and 6 cm round so I guess not affecting a lot the drag curve... just use the existing wiring (most easy solution) and drill a couple of small holes after that hook up the wires and done.. or just install the posistrobe tail position/strobe light (this would require some modification I think as the the) rot beacon switch in cockpit would have to become tail strobe switch...(the posi-strobe has three wires to enable different functions). Or rewire the rot beacon wire from the cockpit to the strobe light switch...and disable/remove the rot beacon switch the rot beacon wire in the tail needs to go to the posi strobe light of course... For the wing tip lights I keep them as they are (though they are opaque ). When a light fails I guess I would go for the Aveo lights then.. Anyway the Hoskins flash box is very hard to find if that one fails (only whelen has a replacement part but heavier). the Aveo solution also reduces the weight a bit if this boxes go out ....In addition all these LED lights would significantly reduce the load on the battery/alternator.. A good LED landinglight and then no more changing light bulbs/flashboxes hopefully.. btw in europe (Belgium) the classical edison light bulb is fading out quickly (can not officially be sold in the shops anymore)
  14. Quote: 1964-M20E I'd like to see more on this as well. I want to replace my wing tip lights with 3 in 1 LEDs (Nav, position, strobe) and maybe LED tail light with strobe. How can we legally get rid of the rotating beacon (speed brake)?
  15. Quote: scottfromiowa What are regs on this? I have a functioning belly strobe as well as nav lights and wing tip strobes. Can I add a tail strobe and remove the belly strobe? Can I remove the belly strobe and just have wing-tip strobes and nav lights?
  16. On some mooney you see rotating beacons/anti collsion lights on the bottom on others you don't. Maybe this is a no brainer topic for an expert Mooney engineer...anyway here I go.. First I am wondering if all of them are within the 360 degrees anti collision regulation? I was wondering if there exists an STC to change the bottom rotating beacon to a tail strobe/position light in order to cover the 360 degrees visibility requirement and get rid of this artificial speedbrake. From technical point of view I would imagine that an additional flash box is required to install the Whelen strobe/position tail light....? I noticed today that Aveo has recieved international certification TSo and STC for Pipers and Cessna's for there Galactica and Red Baron strobe's...(no further details though..) http://www.aveoengineering.com/Aviation/Airplane_LED_Lights/anticollision_LED_lights/RedBaronXP/index.php This red baron beacon looks very promising low aerodynamic profile, low weight and all steering electronics in the box (would be a great replacement for the older rotaing beacons...if it would get approval for the Mooney..? With the posi-strobe you could do it even without the additional weight of this old technology flasf device..? http://www.aveoengineering.com/download/InstallationManual_PosiStrobeCP.pdf Did anybody perform the Whelen mod? thanks PS mine is broken thats' why I am concidering other options
  17. Quote: Piloto You can get a good automotive charger at Sears that will crank your plane for less than $200 José
  18. Quote: piperpainter I agree 1500' is a plenty for a Mooney. I've done about 900ft before and thats as small as i'll go!
  19. Quote: PapaPapa But maybe by the time i get my IR and am ready to buy the price will have fallen some more ? ;-
  20. From 79 onward (I think) need to check the serial rear seats can have schoulder harness easely installed Speed restricition when lowering the gear...in early M20J was lower( don't think this can be changed). Early M20J's have the airscoop above the fuselage to change this to the NACA tail inlet requires a significant mod

  22. Yepp yesterday was the day, beautiful weather. After 40 minutes of emergency procedures my Instructor told me:" I am done with you..., you can take her up alone now...". I looked at him and asked..." Can I think this over...". Sure you can but you aren't afraid of flying are you..;-).?.Well..heck no... But you know, when one get's older, married with children etc... you get more prudent... He looked a bit bewilderd at me.. So after a small rest and drinking some water after the exhausting emergency procedures and 6 T&G's, I fired her up and taxied to the holding position. Only less then 2Hrs of type conversion...and now I am all alone...OOOh men I lined up gazed at the short 1500 Ft asphalt RWY in front of me I quickly went mentally through the procedures again...60 Kts rotate, positive climb...gear up, 400 Ft, flaps up, Climb Power 25/25,.....boost pump off..... OOOh men what a day, though I have flown Cessna's, Pipers, Robin's ....but Mooneys are quite a different ballgame..... Full throttle, right rudder......60, rotate here we gooooooooooooooo, jee this hi-way to Dusseldorf is quite low below..;-) 1500Ft is about the RWy at Aachen Merzbruck (just over the border with Belgium) this is not a lot when flying a mooney, looks more like a A/C carrier deck...retard the throttle 300 Ft before the actual RWY threshold and then you'll be fine.. I was very happy to have done the training here...if I can land the bird on this stretch then a 3000Ft RWY won't pose a problem It is almost twenty two years ago that I landed a glider alone onboard......as my first Solo flight ever,...it surely felt almost the same today! I real very nice sense of achievement...I was just like a happy kid again I am now in full anticipation to see my bird coming out of repair. Of course I will take an experienced Mooney Pilot with me when we go flying her... So if any one is thinking or hesitating to go for a Mooney Just DO IT you won't regret it!!!
