  1. Quote: Greg_D George: in an Ovation, if you were to run it LOP and top off the tanks, you could make the trip down AND back without refueling, and still have about an hour of reserve fuel, all at about 177 knots TAS. Assuming no wind, of course.
  2. Back to the accident, I wonder if this was some suplemental oxygen problem? I know a lot of us Mooney pilots decide to go way up in the flight levels with suplemental oxygen. I have set a personal minimum to not go above 180 in a unpressurized airplane due to a near accident I had while at 240 with suplemental oxygen. I was lucky to make it down safely. Maybe, if I had gone thru a pressurization chamber training course I would have been able to recognize my hypoxia symptoms. But, I didn't and I was lucky to live. Obviously, way to early to say this was the problem in this accident.
  3. I hope this isnt anyone from this board..... http://www.aero-news.net/news/genav.cfm?ContentBlockID=56438197-27ae-4ff8-9296-ed27b8d75aca&Dynamic=1
  4. My old Attitude indicator works just fine. I couldnt justify spending $15K for that unit if it were going in a $200K airplane. It really doesnt increase your capabilities at all. Unlike a WAAS unit for $10K, which increases the abilities of the airplane. I might spend it on a WAAS unit, but I just couldnt do it for just glass.
  5. Go Dawgs!!!
  6. I purchased a locking fuel cap modification from Aero-Trim. The package came about three weeks later. A zip-lock bag full of keys and locking cylinders. And, two 8.5 X 11 pages; one with instructions and the other with all 6 or 7 pages of the STC zoomed down and completely illegible. Problem #1- The instructions state that the STC (SA00749AT) does not require that the modification be done by a professional mechanic. The STC is not legible enough to read to verify for myself. I decided to contact Aero-Trim to have them send be a %100 scale copy of the STC. Long story short, they cant do it... They then told me that the STC is just there "if some Fed asks you about your caps." Problem #2- I dont understand how I can legally do this modification. I am not an A&P and this is a substantial modification to my factory caps and it has an STC. STC means that the Type Certificate of the airplane is being updated or changed to reflect the modification. It has always been my understanding that all STC's are to be submitted via a form 337 to notate the modification with Oklahoma City. Mechanics submit 337's, not pilots or owners. I am very confident that I can do the mod since I did work in a FAA repair station for about three years. I think I have solved the first problem with a call to the Atlanta FSDO. They say that they can give me a copy of the STC. The inspector also shared his opinion on the second problem. He said that the STC does indead say that you dont have to be a mechanic to do the modification. But, he agreed with me that he didnt see how. He also thinks that this STC requires a mechanic due to the involvement of the modification and the form 337 submital. Has anyone had any experience with this modification?? Please let me know how you handled this?
  7. Did you complete your Cozy? I started building an AeroCanard FG.
  8. Will do.....
  9. The above post is exactlly how I operate as well. Fuel pressure drops a significant time before the engine sputters. That is the point when I switch tanks. At least in my airplane. Not to say that it is the best of ways to do it but, it is the way I do it and have been doing it in similar airplanes for many years. Not running it dry is a respectable positions as well.
  10. Hello Everyone. I have a 1966 M20C (N2652W) that I have had for a little less than a year. I am based at Berry Hill Airport (4A0) in Stockbridge, GA. I fly for CitationShares soon to be renamed CitationAir. I have had an interesting career that started with flight instruction. I flew corporate for a while as well. I even flew the Twin-Otter on floats down in the Caribbean for a few years. We are really enjoying our airplane! We have taken trips to the Bahamas and regular trips to Oklahoma and NW Arkansas. My wife is from there and forces me to go to see the Razorbacks attempt to play football. I told her she would benifit from watching a few Georgia Dawgs games. Well see what happens. Really excited to find this site! Thanks for setting it up and if anyone is in the Atlanta area PM me and we can go have some lunch and talk about Mooneys. Maybe even tell a few lies... Kevin Harper
  11. There is a 63 or 64 Mooney 20C with a 201 Cowling at PDK in Atlanta. It is owned by Epps Aviation. Call the piston maintenance shop and ask for Greg Lammers. Maybe he can provide you with some info. Jeff is a mechanic that works under Greg and is the best Mooney mechanic I have ever seen. You might talk to him as well but be aware that he is autistic and can be difficult to understand. Good Luck....
  12. WOW! $300. I just priced an oil temp probe for a little over $100. Maybe you have a different probe than me since I have a M20C. I would bet the probe is the same though..
  13. I had this same problem. My fuel selector stuck in the off position and I had to get a pair of pliers to get it unstuck. Lucky for me I still had my tool bag in the back seat. The procedure you mentioned worked for me as well. I plan on rebuilding the selector anyway.
