  1. ya, it sure did not work very long at all....was installed brand new less than a week ago Thanks again for the feedback guys
  2. Thanks for the info. Any idea why taping the starter worked every time (5 or 6 times straight)?
  3. Ill make sure I let the guys atthe shop know that ...thanks for the info
  4. I had a similar problem today...was leaving an airport when i went to start it I heard a click sound and no starter movement...we took off the cowling and a guy at the local shop tapped on the starter and it would be good for one try, then if you did not start it, it had to be tapped on again and it would again work for one try...So, because I was 1.5 hours from home (6 hours by car) I had him give it another "magic tap" put the cowl back on...fired it up and got the heck out of there and flew home.. I landed, shut the plane off and then tried to see what would happen....same thing...just a click noise from the solenoid under the instr. panel....I would have thought it was a bad solenoid, but then why does the tapping on the starter do the trick??? OH....One thing to add to my frustration....It is a brand new Skytec, I bought and had installed last week ! A bit frustrated to say the least....now if it is the starter, I get to pay my mechanics to do it all over again...
  5. Thanks for the info!...José
  6. I have the Monroy long range tanks (M20J) and they are nice for (real) long range, but I typically do not need them and I find it tough to keep track of the accurate fuel level when the fuel equalizes between tanks. Maybe there is something I am missing???
  7. Thanks again José!...I'll give that a look this weekend..
  8. Does anyone know where to locate the actual servo motor on the Mooney...I cleaned the contacts on the controller and now it seems to be working better on the "brain" side of things...(looking for headings), but it is over correcting and it just seems to get worse the longer you leave it on..I was told the servo likely needs to be rebuilt and I would like to just take a quick look at it before bringing it in. From what I was told the motor rebuild alone is in the 2K range without any labor... I know...it's a plane Thanks
  9. Congrats! I am 9 months into my first Mooney and love it. Great looking airplane!
  10. Thansk again José! .... good information to know!
  11. Thanks José, Where is the computer located on a Mooney...is it the actualy system behind the switches or is it somewhere else? thanks for the info
  12. Hey Jim, Anything you find, I am interested as well....samn darn thing...except mine never really worked for me....made for a bit more monitoring of headings from Seattle to Los Angeles a couple weeks ago...I have the 430w, ond they would be a great pair if I could get it fixed...My Roll works so so...seems to roll to the right better than the left (or sooner I should say), but not tracking heading ...thanks for any info!
  13. I am looking at portable oxygen systems and I am wondering if there is anything besides shape and weight that I should consider with steel vs. aluminum systems? I see the shape is a bit different and the regulator is placed on the side of the steel tanks vs. on top with aluminum.... Anything else I am missing? Thank you for any advice
  14. Thanks again for all the feedback...I can assure you it won't happen again
  15. They were down about half way to the take-off setting. I used them to land twice after I realized and put them up the rest of the way and they seemd fine both times, but I'll have them double checked...I don't see anythign that looked different, but then again, I am not an A&P ... Thansk!
  16. Went flying this weekend and realized 1.5 hours into it that I did not raise my flaps all the way...they were just above take off config.. Everything worked fine for the landing and I don't see any obvious damage. My question is....should I be looking for something in particular and is there somethign that I might not see that could have been damaged? I am hoping I am not the only person on the site that has done this (maybe someone has a "friend" that has done this......) thanks for any advice / info..
  17. My 1978 M20J has a useful load of 992 lbs... I'm sure there are some nice trade offs for the newer model... Good Luck
  18. Speaking of...where would I get FAA approved foam and glue for the carpet and foam? I looked at Spruce, but did not see anything that mentioned "FAA Approved" Anyone do this recently? thanks
  19. Hey Richard, Thanks for all the info...I will make a list and check it all out. Your site is very helpful as well. Joe
  20. Let em know if Don finds a source of the smell. I have no signs of a leak either...thank you!
  21. I have a Century IIB autopilot that is supposed to be slaved to my Garmin430w...I know this is only one axis. Does anyone know how I can turn this into a 2 axis without having to buy an entire new auto pilot or am i just better off replacing this older technology? Or...is this auto pilot fine and maybe i don't need altitude hold...? I plan to start working on my Inst. rating ina month or so and I hear they are very helpful... I have zero experience with auto pilots...in fact have not even attempted to use it yet thanks for any advice
  22. Thanks Scott, it is original interior'78, so it could be the smell. It actually doe not smell bad, it just smells like "airplane" is my best description..I am not worried about the smell at all actually, but rather the gas leak if it happens to be that....I was just wondering if there was any way to check ...I guess when I buy new carpet and have the seats re-done I will know and I am going to try the gas in the cabin trick...thanks
  23. I was wondering if there is anyway to determine if my wings are leaking other than seeing blue stains. I don't see any rivets anywhere with stains or any other obvious signs. Prior to owning my Mooney, I have not had much experience with them. I do know my Cherokee and the Cessnas that I have flown had an "airplane smell" to them and my Mooney deos too. Is there somehting I should look for or a place I can look to determine that this is just the "airplane smell" and not a fuel tank leaking? It's not overwhelming or anything, but all the fuel tank leaking talk can make a guy paranoid.. Thanks!
  24. Just spoke with Don Maxwell (great guy)....The bulb is a 330G Also the same one that is in the compass and gear indicator on the floor (at elase in my plane) Thanks!
  25. I have a little map light on the bottom of my yoke (underneath) and the bulb finally died on me. Has anyone replaced this on theirs? I have been searching for the replacement bulb with no luck...thanks for any help!
