  1. When doing my 500ft above ground or minimums check, together with gear check, boost pump, mixture full rich.
  2. Garmin had problems with a batch of defective GPS antennas. When the antenna failed it "jammed" other antennas nearby. There were several dual GNS430 installations where both units lost reception at the same time. They usually regained reception after a short time (couple of minutes).
  3. Quote: flight2000 If you're referring to the Army Airfield, the chance would probably be close to zero. Only thing I've ever seen is the citations and king airs land there. Never any other civilian aircraft. Is there another airfield in Wiesbaden? Brian
  4. Quote: flight2000 I thought the weather was bad on Saturday but I still heard a prop go over downtown Wiesbaden around 1300 local. I was out with my boys after having checked the board to see if a go/no-go decision had been made. I didn't see the later message until I got home and glad I didn't venture out to Mainz even though it is only a 20 minute drive. Brian
  5. Quote: Vref did you guys made it? I decided to give it a try (last moment famely re_shedule) but the fog east of the Ardennes stopped my attempt. Frankfurt hahn was IFR......
  6. Quote: flight2000 I could make Koblenz this weekend. Would love to see some Mooney's in the area since I had to leave mine at home. I'll be the guy driving in from Wiesbaden though... I'll be in Stuttgart on Friday for my sons soccer tournament, but Sat or Sun would work. Brian
  7. Quote: Awful_Charlie How about we meet at Koblenz EDRK by the tower tomorrow at 12:45 local (1145Z)? If the WX is dodgy for VFR (there doesn't seem to be an IAP there), then final go/nogo by 1030Z, and can possibly re-schedule for Sunday I'll be inbound from LFGB in N2125K @Pierre - sorry you won't be able to make it, but thanks for the tip - next time I come up I'll try asking for the discount, but they've never mentioned it to me so far @Brian, Magnus, Luc - Look forward to seeing you
  8. Let's hope the weather improves, Sat or Sun would be ok for me.
  9. Quote: Awful_Charlie I'm at a loose end this coming weekend and have the itch to get airborne - any other Mooniacs up for a fly in somewhere? I was thinking of somewhere with an on-site or close restaurant, maybe fairly central, but happy to go with the majority. Something possibly like Egelsbach in Germany, Reims or Lyon (Bron!) in France, and probably not Switzerland due to the Customs requirements. Any interest out there? Ben Edit: Or perhaps Jersey for a cheap tank of AvGas?
  10. If you want the best bang for the buck, I'd suggest a Century 2000. Maybe you can use some of your old servos, so the installation will be much cheaper than putting in a Stec. It has Altitude hold, autotrim, and flies down a ILS. But it doesn't have an Altitude Preselector or VS Selector.
  11. I have the Aspen installed and I am very happy with it. No problems so far. OTOH, my 430W was sent back to Garmin as it looses all satellites from time to time.
  12. In Zweibruecken (EDRZ) is a IFR N-reg Warrior for rent. I used to fly it before I bought my Mooney. I don't know how much they charge for it now, I'd suggest 150-170 Euros /hr wet. Driving by car should take about 1 hour from Bitburg.
  13. I measured my prop today. The Excelsheet calculated a BAF of 114.9. But something is not right, the figures Benchmark calculates are far away from the POH values. I'll have to dig deeper and hopefully I'll find the error. IMHO the data from the Drag Polar Flight Test is not accurate enough. Has someone else measured the prop yet? It would be nice to have more data for comparison.
  14. Quote: RonM2OC 75 M20C Fuel Sump Drain Leaks after checking for water under starboard wing. I tried to reset drain sump by reinserting fuel sample bottle but still drips at one drop per 10 seconds or so fterwards. We temporary solved the slow dripping with a small round magnet (plugs hole) untill I can find the correct solutuiion(s). Any clues please.
  15. Quote: N4352H I queried Aspen and they said it was going to be a future software unlock. I would also add, I find the altitude alerter very sufficient and it is already in the Aspen unit. I have an Stec 55X. In fact, between the mins and altitude alerters, I don't feel the need for pre-select. If I were flying an AC with performance around 2k fpm....I would then want it.

  17. Quote: mooniac58 Peter could chime in here but my understanding is that Aspen is working on building this into the PFD1000 but I don't know what the ETA is or costs. PM heading your way!
  18. My avionics shop developed an interface to use the altitude bug in the Aspen as altitude preselect for the autopilot. A nice small box with an switch to arm it. It is cheaper than most preselectors (around US$1900 + installation + paperwork). They don't have an STC yet but the quote for the paperwork is quite low. If someone is interested send me a PM.
  19. I just came back from MT and have bad news. They don't have the data and doubt that McCauley will release them. But we can try. I asked them for the data of the MT props and they said that they have to check with the management first and are not sure if they want to release them either.
  20. Quote: testwest Congrats to Magnus for producing the first Benchmork model for the Mooney, it is an IO-360 engine model that reflects the POH power settings. Well done!
  21. Testwest, have you checked your POH against the IO-360 data in Benchmark? IMHO some power settings in my Mooney POH are around 5% too high. I have the Lycoming Operators Manual which is the source of the Benchmark data and there is no mistake in there. Esp. with 2400 and 2500 RPM between 55 and 75% power the MAP settings Mooney suggests result in 5% higher power settings. It is ok (< 2-3% difference) for 2600 and 2700 RPM.
  22. Quote: testwest Once you have developed either a prop or airframe model in Benchmark, we can share the files on the Benchmark site, here: http://www.seqair.com/benchmark/index.html#benchmark Just e-mail the files to Alfred Scott at Sequoia and he'll post them on the site. You will find several models already posted. What propeller do you have? My top priority right now is to get a blade activity factor number for a McCauley B2C34D212 and D214 prop. Hopefully someone will volunteer to email McCauley and get that. I have a Hartzell BA that will have a different BAF. Failing that, it is possible to measure a prop and compute BAF with a simple spreadsheet. The procedure and downloadable spreadsheet is here: http://www.avweb.com/news/airman/182418-1.html Thanks for your interest, Magnum!
  23. Quote: testwest Workin' on that. In the meantime, are there any Mac guys willing to download Benchmark and start plugging their M20 POHs into the program for their particular airplane?
  24. Quote: Emmet How did you guys with the 830 mount the fuel flow transducer ? Instead of the primary ? Simply in line ? Hooked the instrument to the primary sensor ?
