NEW NEWS FROM LASAR AND MOONEY AS OF 10/2/2025
jeremyc209 replied to cliffy's topic in General Mooney Talk
My first thought as well. I don't have a problem with using AI to rewrite things like this for clarity, but at least spend some time tailoring the output. -
Brittain autopilot equipment list
jeremyc209 replied to jager3's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Yeah I'll have the shop correct anything with the TC but it would be nice to at least verify whether it's the TC that needs adjustment or the rigging. The avionics shop also shares a hangar with a mechanic. He said it'll work as the 375 can output the analog mv left/right signals. Current upgrade budget is going into new audio/com1 (par200b), CDI, and GPS so I can get my IR training done. If I can get it to follow a GPS course that'll do for now. Still looking for an Accuflite... -
Brittain autopilot equipment list

Thanks for the advice, I'll check those out. Where do I put a bubble level when leveling the plane laterally? Seat rails? I assume playing with the tire pressure will do the trick. Does the TC twist or adjust in some way if it's out of wack and the plane is level? The PC system is really nice, and I have a GPS + Garmin 106 going in soon so it'd be nice if the AP could follow the magenta line well. -
Brittain autopilot equipment list

Mine rolls slightly to the right, and appears to be slightly uncoordinated (ball on the right) when I'm in straight and level flight unless I rest my foot on the pedal. Fixing the PC system compensated for the roll but not the uncoordinated straight flight. My AP (just the Accutrak, testing on VORs) hunts but I don't think it's set up properly, it will bank well beyond a standard rate turn. It seems like it has a slow reaction time, then overcorrects. Everything appears correct on rigging, yoke positions are normal etc. The service manual outlines the bending of aileron trailing edges (the left edge down in my case) and the rudder trim tab but I haven't gone that far yet. -

Yeah it's huge, but seems to have capped out at 75k ish people for years now. I'm assuming the BLM/other agencies won't approve a larger event as there was drama about it back in the day but I haven't kept up. I stopped going regularly when tickets became a lottery situation.

I hopped over the hill for a couple laps around Burning Man on the final day of the event. Lots of traffic in and out, they have their own conga line to/from Reno shuttling people. Would have been cool to go out during the week to take some friends out on sightseeing flights but didn't have the time to make the trip. I've attended the event many times but it's been a few years. Tower has you fly at 7000 MSL (about 3000 AGL) clockwise around the outside of the city for sightseeing. There were a few other Mooneys I saw going in and out, any here?

I think we're safe because I scanned this in my office, not the principal house of a landed estate.

That makes so much more sense! -

Is this a troll? Just "roll your damn sleeves up" to get into the top 0.2% of income earners in the US? -
Restore or remove Accu-Trak B11

Makes sense. The AV30s are nice little units, the 172 I trained in a bit had a pair. -
Restore or remove Accu-Trak B11
jeremyc209 replied to christaylor302's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Did you get your PC system running? I have the same PC/B11 setup and it was a mess but I got it working great just recently and it's definitely worth it. The Accutrak seems to work but VOR navigation isn't particularly useful, I'm having it connected to the CDI/GPS that's going in soon. The PC allows for very straight flight once trimmed out and it's nice in light turbulence. I installed two aileron servos (previous owner removed them at some point and got rid of them, but it's not a bad job to put them in), and replaced a bunch of the vac lines, there were some unnecessary T's etc from someone fiddling with it before and the gyro wasn't connected to the vacuum source properly. Following the maintenance manual carefully gives you all the info you need. I'm not a fan of the disconnect button on the yoke though, the controls are way too stiff to leave it on in the pattern and annoying to hold the button while trying to make radio calls. Hopefully I can figure out a good panel mounted switch like I've seen Brittain put in some planes. If anyone has a part number or advice there I'm all ears. -
Here it is! I had to try a couple scanners because of the holes for the spiral bound pages and I cleaned up the final scan a bit. Let me know if you find any issues. I already uploaded it to the files section as well, just waiting for approval. The Backwards Tales Rev 8 - Coy G Jacob.pdf

We've got one here at KCPU, I believe the owner flies it.. saw him at the pump the other day. He's thinking about selling. Very cool to see in person!

PC Wing Leveler help needed
jeremyc209 replied to MarquezJC's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I used a little ~4" socket wrench with a rubber/square handle and it only took a few minutes to deal with the aileron servos. You can also pull the aileron lines at the turn coordinator (no remote gyro in the '66?) and test vacuum there for leaks. -
You won't get insurance in California as a student pilot in a Mooney, @Parker_Woodruff tried to get it done for me last year. I'm glad though, I ended up doing most of my training in a 150 and passed my checkride in it, then bought my Mooney at around 100TT. There's a lot more going on in the Mooney, in the 150 I could concentrate on stick n rudder skills and it's harder to get behind flying a 150. Also, since I was in a club, the 150 had 100hour inspections and I never had to worry about maintenance etc other than a couple scheduling issues. Just another distraction avoided so I could focus on my training.

It works! A little inconsistent, I'm not sure what a normal functioning PC system is like though. Sometimes it will return to level but overshoot, then come back. At least once or twice in the short time I was up today, it would overshoot but not come back. Maybe something sticking in the gyro? The roll trim on the yoke is not super responsive, is it supposed to be a fairly faint trim adjustment? The Accutrak still gets off course a little then starts overcorrecting hard. I haven't tried making any adjustments to it yet since the PC system still isn't 100%.

Aging airplane and systems: What would you do?
jeremyc209 replied to Immelman's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Don't tell your wife! -
Yep! I feel dumb for not realizing. It was mounted upside down by the last person who worked on it. I got the left/right lines on the correct ports when replacing all the lines but just hooked up the vac and inlet filter to the same ports it was on before, which were reversed. Haven't had a chance to test it yet but I'm guessing that solves my issue, hopefully today.
-
All the lines are connected, those red capped ports are test ports. I did pull the TC and check the gyro before realizing the problem, it spins fine. Side note for anyone wanting to check if the gyro spins:, an easy way is to run a little compressed air into the inlet side, it'll spin it right up. I just hit it with some nearly empty canned air since that's what I had on hand and it spun for a couple minutes.
