  1. Flew her this morning and really leaned her out over about an hour. Take off power was definitely there and everything seemed better than it had ever been. I was running way too rich. I still have a blowby problem but nowhere near as bad as I had thought. I pulled the lug and it was barely wet. In my inspection, I also noticed the dipstick housing was a bit loose and leaking a small amount from the base. Fixed also. I will continue to monitor the situation.
  2. I've been apprehensive in doing my own maintenance but this ordeal has made me realize the need to actively participate and conduct my own maintenance and inspection. I trust my AP but I suppose many of these things aren't as black and white as I thought
  3. I watched him. And he said I could do it but that I shouldn't because it's not in my scope of practice as an owner
  4. His reasoning is that he doesn't want me stuck at a foreign airport with a fouled plug... I did get a second opinion with another person on the field that did borescope it today. He mentioned he had the same problem but with much higher oil consumption. He opted for the cylinder because he had one lying around but he was also of the school of "fly it and watch it."
  5. Well that's good news! Just streaks
  6. In the summer, it's about 1 quart every 6-8 hours. Longer in the winter
  7. I wonder the same. Borescoped today. Minor oil on cylinder wall, no crosshatch but streaks along. No hotspots to be seen anywhere BUT significant buildup. I've been running it super rich for like the last 300 hours which was my bad.
  8. I was hoping to find one that has a cylinder exchange thing...
  9. 3950. West tx so da is normally was higher
  10. I'm using champions. I can get whatever plug if needed. Timing was checked on the mags. I don't think plugs were ohmed but he did clean, gap, and even replaced one.
  11. Borescoping today. This is the first time this has happened. I decided to check after an abnormally long rollout resulting in an aborted takeoff. I have had to runup hot and leaned to clear a mag drop on several occasions though
  12. That I don't. And that's part of the reason I'm apprehensive about changing the cylinder. For the most part, my engine is extremely well behaved, no extremely high cylinder temps. I maybe see 425 on my hottest cylinder on initial climb out, oil runs cool, BUT my MX says it will only get worse
  13. Relatively new, I've had to aggressively lean at run up for the last 50-70 hours or so to get the satisfactory 50 rpm mag drop. I've had the plane for just over 300 hours. But the dipstick has always smelled the same and the oil has always turned dark in the first hours after every oil change. Usually 3 is hottest. However on run up after cleaning, get for 2 was momentarily hottest by a good margin. Then it evened out across the board.
  14. His reasoning is the oil fouling, blow by, and that they're overhauled cylinders
  15. Number 2 cylinder fouled a spark plug with a bit of oil. Compression 77, blowby evident at dipstick. Redid run up and spark plug is barely moist but with deposits after cleaning. AP thinks it's time for a new cylinder. All cylinders are nickel and the aircraft was IRAN in 2019, approximately 400 hours ago. Having just gone down the mile Busch YouTube rabbit hole, I'm thinking I should not change the cylinder. Am I correct?
  16. Are these for a certain model?
  17. My instrument CFI spun my mooney by accident. It was my first instrument lesson with him and he wanted to see what i knew by doing PPL stuff. i did power on/power off stalls and then he wanted and accelerated stall at a 25 degree bank. I told him i did them in training but my transition training for the mooney prohibited it. He was like "i read the poh, my controls..." No warning, no shudder, nothing. we went over and entered a full spin immediately. lost 1500 ft in just over 1 rotation and recovered at around 800' agl. That was my first and last outing with him.
  18. I have it. I was hoping for a searchable one..
  19. Any chance you have the latest f manual? SB 22-1317
  20. Not for anything, but i love the OP's paint scheme. When it comes time to repaint my 75 F, I'd seriously think about going retro with that scheme...
  21. Nice work! I have the interior from the 1977 m20j. Down to the yokes. I had always wondered why my yokes we're different ... Here's a link to a 77 j listing. https://www.aerolifeaviation.com/Item/Index?idun=2&1977-MOONEY-M20J-201
  22. Just went through pics... There's nothing there...
