  1. i tried to wiggle it out but it wasnt cooperating. i may try tomorrow when i have more patience. what do you think about the voltage regulator heating up?
  2. Here at the airport. Cleaned field terminals ohms between f1/f2 improved. However, after leaving the master on for a while after a run up and taxi, voltage regulator is warm/hot to the touch. disconnected and was getting 12.49 to the VR and 10.7 coming out the other side.
  3. I had to replace it 2 years ago. Would the VR have gone bad that quickly? My last VR failure the panel just shut off
  4. 75 f. What's the easiest way to remove it without pulling the prop?
  5. I'm going to do this tomorrow!!
  6. Yes, we did this. Variation is at about 0.1
  7. Mid flight I had my ammeter go negative with the red voltage light on my 75 F. I landed without incident, checked everything and proceeded home. Mid flight, it happened again and I landed again just before landing without incident and once on the ground, I cycled the master and it appeared to have resolved the problem. After troubleshooting connections, I e settled on needing a new alternator. F1/f2 resistance test yielded 5.2 ohms apparently normal range is 3-4. Am I correct in thinking I need the new alternator and if so, which one is recommended for best bang for my buck? I'd like to go to an a&p confidently as I find myself without a reliable one at the moment.
  8. They've been trying to sell one locally for like the last year... No takers though
  9. Hi, are you still doing this? Will it fit these switches?
  10. This is definitely what I think happened. After modifying my leaning, the problem has gone away
  11. This is the plan if I have any problems again
  12. Yes. I've always leaned just nowhere near enough. I figured just bringing it further down a bit was enough. It was not.
  13. Ah yes. DA here is rarely less than 5-6000. Field elevation is 3950.
  14. I used this method every time up until a week ago. (See my thread about maybe replacing a cylinder.) A local guru (not my AP) told me it's no wonder I have wet plugs with that procedure and what I'm doing is washing the oil off the walls with the fuel. I was having somewhat violent shut downs also. (shaking hard, etc) I tried his method which is almost the same and it seems way nicer on the engine. T he only change is: throttle at idle. My mind was blown! My shutdown and hot start was sooo silky smooth.
  15. I don't have higher than normal cylinder temp and I do get a mag drop. It was out of tolerance for the right mag. I would get 2-300 on the right and have to really lean it out.
  16. I'm taking this post to say thank you to you guys. Y'all have been helpful and supportive. It's very appreciated, great community...
  17. There's not a single person, I've spoken to that says this has worked for them. I think the score right now is 0- 12 between both online and at the airfield. I'm willing to give it a shot though
  18. I've let mine get down to 5 on occasion with no discernable difference in performance. I'm going to really watch the next hours and change the oil at 30ish to see if there's any change
  19. I feel like this is likely what is happening. What is the recourse?
  20. I change it around 35-40. I intend to lean it alot more now. I tell you, today was a day and night difference. Especially since I usually cruise at 6500+
  21. 1 every 6-8 hours. It spits down to 6 qts immediately and stays there for about 6-8 hours
  22. Man, if my only problem is that I'm not running it lean enough then I'm happy to be wrong!
  23. That's what my a&p said. Am I describing symptoms of another issue?
