  1. I was wondering if all Mooneys and specifically the M20J's have fuel cells/bladders as opposed to a wet wing?
  2. Uck....I remember having to lug all the charts out to the aircraft for pretty much the world to update the CC130 when the new cycle of charts showed up...thats a lot of paper!!
  3. No. I'm new to GA and I keep thinking the G3x is still sort of "experimental" class.
  4. Thanks for all the recommendations. In the end in went with this only because it seemed large enough and I liked the colors https://www.avworld.ca/lift-xl-bag.html?source=googlebase&gclid=CjwKCAiAhreNBhAYEiwAFGGKPBBHnQy5KVDMxI8PlAUOQZOE7dQn6QRe8GQUUf6hza59IhO2mitTDxoCl4oQAvD_BwE
  5. I hear that....reading material for those long legs
  6. Looking for a good flight bag than can comfortably hold the charts/pubs and headset.
  7. I definitely am going to go Garmin glass. But the more I'm reading the more confusion is setting in...are there redundancies and overlaps among all the different components (G3X Touch/G500 TXi/GTN570 Xi/G5's -AI's HSI/GTX 345/GNC255/etc) The more I'm reading on these 2 panels, in particular, the more I'm confused? Are they doing the same thing? Are they both a PFD and a MFD? What separates them from each other...why would I choose one or the other...or are both good to have side by side? What would be the bare bones minimum Garmin glass items would I need to to be IFR capable? I'm sold on definitely getting the GFC 500 and at least one GNC 255 (a or b?) so far, what else minimum?
  8. Thanks, I'll give them a call.
  9. So, I'm a relatively experienced pilot (6,000+ hrs all multi-engine IFR / Float rating / Instructor / etc) but still I'm looking at $4,100/yr in Canada. I'm insuring for about $130,000 USD ($165,000) Cdn Is this comparable to what you'd pay in the US for Hull coverage in motion and not in motion? Can I insure with an American company?
  10. No, the one I bought (M20J 201) which is IFR certified with the steam instruments. Just wondering if going glass somehow invalidates that as sort of "experimental"?
  11. Just wonder if using the G3x, TXi or GFC 500 won't allow if to be IFR certified?
  12. Thanks, it does a lot to think about. Out of curiosity was the throttle quadrant a mod as well or is that from the factory?
  13. It says the start date was 9 Aug...how long did it take to complete?
  14. Okay...I'm in love and I don't believe in rebuilding the wheel....this is something I would like to duplicate! If you have any build logs/vlogs or any detail whatsoever about how you went about this, please let me know. Did you do it all yourself or hire a 3rd party like Steinair?
  15. I may have misspoke... I don't have it in my possession yet...its about 1700NM away...but I have a purchase agreement....not sure when I'll be able to fly the aircraft out to my base...maybe late Dec/Jan?? Wx kinda sucks this time of year.
  16. Well, I now have the aircraft and will spend some time to figure out how to proceed with a panel redesign. I know it won't be cheap but as they say, buy once cry once.
  17. Thats great to know and I will do my best to get that feedback/advice. Thanks
  18. My plan is to eventually have a Garmin setup (GTX3 Touch/GTN 750Xi/etc). Does it matter if I use Foreflight for the flight planning or would it make more sense to convert to Garmin seeing as how thats the way I'm leaning wrt avionics....or does it not matter?
  19. Yeas...I'm gonna have to brush up on the correct way to break an engine in...so far all I've been told is to "run it hard" for the first 25 hrs....I'll try and expand on that
  20. Meh...I've got 6,000 hrs (35 yrs military pilot) 7 tours in Afghanistan at the controls of a C130 flying tactical I am currently buzzing around in a C172 and did fly a Mooney X-ctry back in the 80's.. It will be a bit of a transition but I'm up for it
  21. Just an update....I Bought it!! WTH!! Happy to be the proud owner of a Mooney
  22. Thanks...I will take that to heart....would there be a model year you wouldn't go past??
  23. I appreciate the conversation on this and the effort to dig into it a bit. Any Mooney I do buy I fully intend to upgrade to something along these lines....so would like to be able to get a more basic plane model and spend on that upgrade....is this a sound approach??
  24. Any thoughts on this one? It shows only a 200HP engine...does that matter? https://www.controller.com/listing/for-sale/209191147/1983-mooney-m20j-201-piston-single-aircraft
  25. But then again...it does aerobatics (+6g and -4g)
