  1. Off topic, but.... Funny how those flap actuators look an awful lot like the infamous landing gear actuator....wonder if they share any common parts... Meanwhile, I'll have to take a look at my flap actuator - pretty sure I have the same elongated hole...
  2. Take pictures and copious notes please. I'm going to be tackling the same on my 1970 F in the spring. Supervised by my A&P/IA, of course...
  3. Unfortunately, the bracket would not clear a standard oil filter in my case. The 'curve' would have to be deepened or cut away significantly. Just not worth the hassle.
  4. I decided on the Airwolf remote filter because it makes oil changes 'easy', and clean. Oil from the filter is easy to catch, and isn't dripping on a bunch of things that are difficult to get to. I did look at the Donaldson adapter, and decided the hassle of the tight space just wasn't worth it. Additionally, I'd have also had to modify the prop governor bracket, which would not clear a standard oil filter.
  5. For my 1970 F, I installed the Airwolf Remote Filter. I'm very happy with it. Mounted on the pilot-side firewall, about where the brake fluid reservoir is. I'll see about finding pics of my install. You'll need to have a couple of oil lines made. Airwolf Remote Mount Oil Filter Kits
  6. Looking forward to more pictures! And how you ran the wiring. Thanks for the update!
  7. Just to update my own comments: Duncan has confirmed that the STC is still good for all Mooneys, but there's a bit of a catch: One or more of the brackets for the servos will need to be modified, depending on the airframe. SOME A&P/IA's are OK with this, and consider it to be a minor modification, and some may not be OK with this. Updated brackets are in the 'approval' process, so be aware that you may or may not have to get a field approval for the bracket modifications. Thinking it might be time for me to order up an autopilot...would like to get it installed sooner rather than later, as long as I don't have to go the 'field approval' route....
  8. This isn't the actual STC. I've emailed Duncan Aviation, who hold the STC, for clarification, as they've repeatedly told me that they had to withdraw the STC for Mooney's earlier than the 'L' model - e.g., only 'Long Body' Mooneys are currently covered. To be clear, I'm REALLY hoping the issue with the brackets have been resolved and the STC is cleared for all models....
  9. My last emails with Duncan say that only the 'long body' is covered by the STC, and that they are working with BK to get the new STC approved for C through K models. I've asked Duncan for an update, as I'm ready to purchase as soon as the STC is updated.
  10. How did you get the approval? What documents did you supply to the FSDO? Would you be willing to share? (yeah, I want to install on my M20F...)
  11. Don't throw parts at the problem. Check voltages at each point in the system, under load, if possible, and at temperature. Find your voltage drop. Having had this problem in a Cherokee, found what was essentially a bad ground cable. Tested fine for continuity, but not resistance. Replaced with a nice set of Bogert cables, and starting problems disappeared. You've already thrown a battery and starter at the problem, and while you could have gotten a bum starter, chances are the problem is someplace else. A Fluke Multimeter is your friend.
  12. For me, I've done an install of an Aerocruze on a PA28, and it was pretty straightforward, so will likely do the install on my Mooney myself. Thus, the price of the autopilot is where it is at for me. Last I checked, it was around $7k.
  13. I have reached out to them as well. First one that gets their act together is likely the first to get my business. Yeah, I wouldn't mind the GFC-500, but the price tag is....too much.
  14. Can you elaborate? I was under the impression that a field approval would be needed for installing on my F.... If I can avoid the FSDO, then I may go ahead and order one up....
