Wow, thank you, @cliffy! What kind of conductive gasket? Rubber with carbon? Metallic cloth with rubber around the outside? Perhaps I can find some sheets and make my own! Here's what I could use, if resistance is low enough: https://www.mcmaster.com/products/conductive-gaskets/electrically-conductive-high-temperature-silicone-rubber-sheets/

@N201MKTurbo and @MB65E, on my 67 F, the 7 antenna seems to have a traditional gasket, black, that looks worn. I saw some green corrosion on the interior, so I think it's leaking, and I'd like to remove, clean, and re-install. Are you guys saying that I should fully re-secure the antenna, then apply a fillet of polysulfide sealant around the outside of the joint? The CI-196 lists a gasket B19604, but no mention of gasket material, shape. Thanks much.

Which antenna is this? Comm? Nav? VOR? IFR?

What is the best (least) oil consumption rates you guys have ever seen with your IO-360 A1A’s? (Hours per quart?)

We continue to have issues with the ram door staying shut even after adjustments, it's a pain to remove the front cowl. Yes, stock filter and intake. Any recommendations appreciated.

Hi all, looking to get rid of the Ram Air on my '67 F. I thought I ran across an STC that added an exterior shut-off plate, but I can't find it. Anyone know if there's a kit or STC, etc? Thanks much

Opinions wanted! CGR-30 P & C versus EDM 900
SLOWR426 replied to RDuplechin's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
@oregon87 @carusoam and others: Can the EI CGR-30P/C display TIME TO WAYPOINT? I know it says it can display time & distance to "destination" and to empty, but what if I am using a flight plan on my nav system and am wondering about fuel to my 2nd and 3rd leg? Also, can anyone confirm the CGR-30's will accept GPS data format from an old GNC 300XL? E.I. Sales didn't seem to have any documentation listing accepted input GPS formats. Here's the formats our old nav system outputs: ARINC 429; RS232 – Plotting (NMEA 0183 v.2.0), Aviation, PC Interface, Altitude Serializer, Fuel Sensor, Fuel/Air Data Computer; Gray Code, RMI Serial Data Thanks much -

Since the EI CGR-30's interface box must be mounted on the INSIDE of the firewall, doesn't this mean that fuel lines, oil lines, etc must still penetrate the firewall? Why don't I see them in the photo above? Thanks -

It looks like maybe Garmin was listening when you posted this, as CHT, EGT, and fuel flow are on every screen, besides the config screen: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/897577 -

@J0nathan225 and @Marauder or others: Did you install your JPI engine monitors on the outside of the panel (no panel cutout)? They seem to be sticking proud quite a bit. The installation manual says to cut the rectangle in your panel. How's that working out for you? Do you have to remove the engine monitor to remove the panel? -
Got a few questions for those of you with the Whelen 600 / 650's: 1) With the 650, any issues with low battery voltage? (datasheet says they only function down to 11v, as opposed to the 600's which function down to 9v) 2) Anyone know which model is better for a '67 M20F? 3) We have a uAvionix ADS-B-in on the Left wing, so it already has LED's integral. Does it have a sync wire? (install manual doesn't mention one) 4) Which model is brighter (outward and to the pilot)? 5) Which model is better for the metal wingtips like our '67 F?

Intermittent Engine Shuddering
SLOWR426 replied to SLOWR426's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
So we found the problem. 25 hours after a new top-end one cylinder has compression of 8psi, another 62, 73, 74. My A&P has noticed that the zero compression cylinder has a pretty heavy hone pattern on chrome. The 62psi one has no home pattern. These were overhauled top ends from a repair shop. Does anyone know of a document or manual that describes if honing is allowed on chrome IO-360 cylinders? -
Intermittent Engine Shuddering

So a correction on our situation that spawned this thread: plugs are not fouled. Uppers we’re fine and lowers we’re oily. -
Intermittent Engine Shuddering
SLOWR426 replied to SLOWR426's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
PT20J: The plugs are oil fouled. It’s burning a quart every 3.2hrs (mineral oil). We can lean to peak EGT smoothly at run-up but not at cruise. -
We have an intermittent rough engine issue in our ‘67 F. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or has ideas as to the cause. After leveling off into cruise and letting speed build up, adjusting prop RPM down, when I go to lean the engine I get a rough “shuddering” vibration. Feels like the prop is out of balance or cylinders are fighting each other. When I re-enrichen the mixture the roughness goes away. No other control change causes the shuddering (throttle, prop control, mag). we also are having problems fouling plugs. Both before and after a recent top-end rebuild. It’s like we can’t lean it enough to stop fouling plugs because the engine will likewise run rough/misfire on the ground at low RPM’s.

We replaced the vacuum pump successfully today. Here’s the tool I fabricated which sort-of helped, and the screwdriver/hammer method. Will use forcepts next time. Thanks for those tips.
-
Anyone know how to remove the bottom Left nut from the vacuum pump? Holly $hit it looks impossible to get a wrench and hands on there
-
Thanks all. Turns out the pump just failed. Apparently there’s an indicator on the vacuum pump body that spins when you pull the prop through, which is not indicating. And there’s plastic debris there also. Looks like I’ll be ordering a Rapco 211CC for my IO-360 A1A. But thanks for the tips; this is an education for me.

Hi all, we’ve been having intermittent DG issues / tumbling in our ‘67 F-model and last flight both the DG and attitude indicator tumbled / failed at the same time. It’s strange because most of the time the vacuum gyros work fine. 2 weeks ago an oil leak was fixed at the vacuum pump. What could cause intermittent vacuum issues? And where is the vacuum regulator located? Does this intermittent issue sound more likely to be the pump, regulator or vacuum lines/connections? I’ll have my mechanic look at it, but I’m curious as to your thoughts and any Mooney-specific nuances. I’m hoping to train for my instrument rating this Summer in the plane. Thanks in advance

Can anyone confirm the Lycoming-approved method of adjusting power % during break-in of an IO-360 in a complex like my M20F? Manifold pressure vs. RPM? Any combo is OK to achieve 85%, etc. In the performance charts?

So Parker Hannifin is saying they don’t have a PMA (part manufacturer authorization) from the FAA. I had no idea the FAA has to approve every part / manufacturer combination of MS spec parts.
-
Has anyone bought a fuel system component from Parker Hannifin or a distributor? They bought out the old fuel manufacturer Shaw Aero Devices and can make all the old stuff, but I’m getting challenged by them, saying they won’t even quote me for a repair application because it’s a certified aircraft. Can anyone recommend a response that I can go back to them with? Perhaps saying it will be installed with a field exception or DER/DAR sign off? I don’t know the right lingo.
