  1. Yeah I was also wondering what it could be covered with. It’s currently just has a mesh screen over it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. During the recent oil change on my Mooney, I and the mechanic noticed this orange scat tube connected to the nose bowl and just hanging and not connected to anything else. He said the older Mooneys had it connected to the generator for cooling, I believe. But since I have an alternator now he said it isn’t needed. Is there any negative to removing it?
  3. I ordered two of these a couple days ago. :-)
  4. I saw that and is what I'm considering. How did you cut the PVC?
  5. Welp it's time for my first oil change. I have a quick drain but am trying to figure out what size tube to buy that will fit snugly. I've done this on previous planes but didn't keep the tube and don't remember what size I used. So, does anybody know in general what size tube to use on the quick drain? Any other recommendations for my first oil change? I will be doing oil analysis but probably won't cut the filter as I don't have the tool or expertise to know exactly what to look for. May do that in the future, though.
  6. Yep, I let the owner of the shop know this morning. I had to think and rethink how I "informed" him of his shop's mistake. I was as cordial as I know how to be while getting the point across..... ;-)
  7. This was exactly the problem. The front left bracket on pilot side seat was riding on top of the rail. Removed the cotter pin, slid the seat forward and onto the rail. Easy peasy. I did find that the goobers also put the rear cotter pin for the front passenger seat, in front of the seat bracket. So, that seat wouldn’t slide forward at all and was free to slide to the rear. Kinda makes me angry. What if I’d had a passenger and the seat slid backwards on take off? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. My seats are original and the cushions are rather insignificant. Hopefully that won’t be an issue. I just want the seats to roll like they did prior to being swapped. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Forgot to mention, it’s my ‘67 F. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Had some avionics work done and the shop swapped the pilot/copilot seats. I know they’re the same and can go on either side but now they aren’t rolling forward/backward nearly as well as they did before. I had new seat rollers put in at annual, two months ago and they were rolling very well. Now, I can’t even move the pilot seat while I’m sitting in it. So, I want to remove the seats, clean the rails, swap the seats and maybe lubricate the rails. How difficult is it to remove and reinstall the seats? Any instructions available any where? 11. Hey all, yep y’all pretty much nailed it. Oil was still a bit cool. I went back and did a take off and pressure was in the warning range but at cruise it settled to about 80. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Went to fly this evening. Luckily the plane started right up after my debacle yesterday. However, after startup the oil pressure was almost 90. I only have the stock analog gauge. Normally it’s around 70-80. I thought, ok let’s see what happens after runup. Seemed a bit lower but on the takeoff roll the oil pressure was at 100, maybe even a bit above. Aborted takeoff. Rather short taxi prior to runup. Maybe 4-5 mins from start to runup. Oil temps were 120-140. OAT was 65-68. Plane kept in a hangar. Aeroshell 100 oil. Even after cycling the prop 3 times the pressure didn’t seem to come down much at all, if any. I was hooding that maybe cycling the prop would help circulate the warm oil. Any suggestions? 13. Agree. I'm gonna find out what battery I have and will plan on getting a Battery Minder. Had one on my Cherokee and loved it. Wish I hadn't let it go when I sold the plane.
  14. Yep I did Maxwells hot start first and when that didn’t work, I tried the normal start. That’s when I believe I flooded it. Temperature was 65F. 5 minute taxi to the pumps. Oil was 90-100 and CHT was just below 200. I really wouldn’t think that would be a hot start but idk if there is a “warm start” procedure. Back in Sept on a 90F day and after about 1.5 hours flight time, we shut down, got fuel, went into FBO for about 20 mins. Came back out and did the Maxwell hit start and it fired right up. So I was really surprised when it wouldn’t start yesterday. I just hope it starts right up this afternoon. **edited to remove a dirty word** lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I flooded it trying hot start, then normal start with boost pump. I forgot to do a flooded start. How many prop swings is enough? I would keep the starter engaged for about 10-15 seconds and that felt like too much, but I'm no expert. lol
  16. My charger has a 2amp trickle setting. Think it might be OK? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. So this evening, I had my first hit start experience since bringing my F home. I tried every procedure I could think of but it wouldn’t start. My question is if my battery is dead or almost dead, can I use an automotive charger to charge the battery? I have a Schumacher battery charger with a trickle charge option and a “quick charge” option. I wouldn’t use the quick charge, but could I put the battery on trickle charge and be Ok? Unfortunately I don’t know exactly what battery I have. If I can’t get it started tomorrow after work, I’ll pull the battery and update this post. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Plane has about 3500 TT. Engine is just over 1100. Prop about 200. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Is there any type of tension adjustment for the propeller control in the cockpit? Kind of like the throttle friction lock? I noticed on a recent flight that the propeller gradually increases in RPM during flight and I was able to watch the prop control knob rotating clockwise. That's obviously not supposed to happen, so what is the fix?
  21. Welcome aboard! I picked up my F about 6 weeks ago. These are amazing little birds for sure! Idk about the manifold pressure issue, but you’ll get a lot of good info from the awesome folks on this forum. You also have Don Maxwell in East Texas (I believe), who’s is THE Mooney guru. Best of luck and CAVU! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Following, because I also need headrests for my 67F. I believe I've read that the RAV4 head rests are the ones to find but I don't know for sure.
  23. So my F has the 64 gallon tanks. The owner I bought it from said he never filled more than 50 gallons. The CFI that helped with my transition also owns an F with 64 gallons. He said he never fills more than 50 also. So is there a reason not to fill more than 50 other than weight? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. Yeah Im told I need to get rid of that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
