  1. I have a 1978 M20J that I am considering selling. Not sure what the best way to go about this. Never sold an airplane before. Located in Raleigh, NC if theres anyone nearby that may be able to help. I’ve been flying her regularly but I’ll be moving to a larger city and I don’t see any economical way to hold on to her. Shes been hangared all her life and I don’t want to break that tradition. Thanks in advance for the help.
  2. After a few additional flights, we determined that the oil pressure gauge was likely accurate and the manifold pressure was being kept too high for too long causing the oil pressure to spike. Has anyone else seen this? After running the motor for extended periods of time at 25" of MP or less, we did not experience an oil pressure indication above normal. We also determined that the oil temp probe was faulty and has since been replaced but that was unrelated to the pressure gauge.
  3. It is a J model (1978) with a lycoming
  4. Thanks. And if it helps at all, my oil temp never exceeded about 185 degrees regardless of the indicated oil pressure.
  5. In flight, my oil pressure gauge has shown high pressure on several occasions. On the ground, it does not do this. Yesterday I flew for about 2 hours, 8K ft, 60 degrees and it showed that the pressure was normal. Is it possible that the gauge is failing? Or could there be a real problem? My maintenance shop told me that they would just run the plane on the ground and if the pressure looked fine, there really wouldn't be anything they could do. Just want to be sure nothing is unsafe here. Thanks.
  6. I received a GNX375 quote from Sparkchasers at KJNX for $11,074.31. They also agreed to purchase the old Garmin 330 transponder for $900 bringing my installed cost out of pocket with antenna to $10,174.31.
  7. Hi all. Looking for a CFI in the Raleigh area that has significant experience in the Mooney. I would like to receive a bit more instruction in the Mooney from someone that is very well versed in the aircraft to train for my complex endorsement. Thanks!
  8. I just ordered the GTX 375 in order to comply with the ADS-B requirement. Thought that you could use the 430W antenna but Garmin informed us that you must get a new one. Cost is $350 I believe.
  9. When I crank the motor, the prop barely turns over once reaching compression. I had the shop test the battery and they say its fine. The engine still fires up within a few seconds but prior to the start, its as if the starter can barely turn over the motor. Guages show 13.5 volts when started so i don’t think its the alternator. Do I have a bad starter? Is this normal? Thanks for the help.
  10. Will do. Do you mind me asking what price you were looking to get and why you didn't get the deal done?
  11. Now that its a done deal, below is a link to the old ad for the Mooney. https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/30459051/1978-mooney-m20j-201
  12. Maybe I missed this, but has anyone been provided a reason for the delay in FAA approval? If the unit is effective and approved for use in other similar aircraft, why would it not be approved with relatively little fuss in the Mooney?
  13. Well the agreement has officially been signed, deposit has been paid, and the plane should be mine pending the results of an annual inspection.
  14. Could any of you kind folks recommend a great inspection facility near Louisville, Kentucky? I am purchasing a Mooney (pending the inspection) and could use some recommendations for an inspection facility that will conduct a thorough annual inspection. Thanks guys!
  15. Very cool. Maybe we could meet. I will need training. I need my complex endorsement and need time in the Mooney for my own comfort and for insurance purposes.
  16. No the owner paid for it. Its actually a factory reman and was done about a decade ago.
  17. I am in Raleigh, NC. Plane is in the SE.
  18. I actually have a specific plane in mind (didn't want to post it here at this time) so I have provided a general description of the plane. Trying to come to a determination of value that isn't way off so I won't feel as if I'm making a bad deal.
  19. I don't think its publicly available (please post a link here if it is) but isnt that guide for pre-J models only?
  20. Looking to buy.
  21. Could you please let me know which plane this is so I can avoid it? Thanks.
  22. Sorry, whats p&l?
  23. I would like to get the community's take on the value of a Mooney with the characteristics below. I know I know - its really hard to give a value without inspecting the plane or viewing the logbooks. But I'm just looking for a ballpark value here. Assume that the plane is in generally good airworthy condition with no major issues other than issues associated with the features I have provided below. Thanks! 1977-1979 M20J Always hangered Gear up landing 20+ years ago Original paint but no signs of corrosion - exterior 7/10 3000-3500TT 1000-1250 SMOH 75+ compression on all cylinders 2 blade prop Garmin 530 or Garmin 430 Aspen Pro PFD Good audio panel Century II-B AP STEC 60 PSS Electronic engine monitor Garmin 330 transponder with ADS-B No leaks in gas tanks but not resealed and no bladders Interior 8/10
  24. Thanks again everyone. I thought I had a deal together with a very nice couple trying to sell their C but they decided to pull the plug and let a broker sell it instead. Guess they figure the 10%+ that the broker will take will be worth it. Anyway, I am back looking. Below are some of the items I am looking for in an M20 Reliable - I plan to put some hours on the plane as I will use it for my IR and I also plan to fly it on the weekends to Florida (I live in Raleigh, NC) Prefer something from the 70s or newer Prefer a J but am open to other models. I really would prefer a fuel injected model. For the IFR training, I would prefer the plane to at least be equipped with a Garmin 530 or better. I would consider a 430 as well but prefer the 530. I obviously need this to be a solid IFR platform. I don't care about the paintjob as long as there is NO CORROSION. Obviously I would love to find a bird with some great skin but the exterior cosmetics are not that important to me. I would like the interior to be fresh, maybe even redone in the recent past. I prefer no cracking of panels and some decently nice seats. From what I have read, I think I should be looking for a plane with less than 1300 SMOH and less than 4000ish TT Is it possible to find a plane in this condition for well under $100,000? If anyone has any leads, please let me know. I can travel anywhere in North America to get it. Thanks.
