I've been flying for 20+ years...just military. I'm spreading my wings as it were into GA. Mooneys meet the desired mission set. Fast crosscountry machines. What I'm learning is there are SO many variants (engines and models) in the <100k price range. Awesome and intimidating all at the same time.
Ok...don't mean to keep asking dumb questions, but I know I have a lot to learn about Mooneys. How can a non-turbo charged engine (aka a M20M TLS motor) have 270 horse when the 231 turbos have 210???
ok...so I don't think i can afford a 252 at this point. So, eliminating that option and assuming all else being equal, is the 262 a no-brainer better investment and better performer than a 231?
That's exactly what i've been told, GSXR. I guess that's why I'm leaning so heavily towards a 231. THENNNNNNNN, a 262 popped up, and temptation is a dangerous thing.
Well, with a lot of family in the colorado (Denver and some in mountains) area, I'm leaning heavily toward a turbo, but it's not a must I suppose. I do like the high(er) altitude options for weather and wind considerations, and I like extra power for summer, high(er) pressure/density altitude options. Still, with all that said, I'm not die-hard, must-have turbo...yet.
OK...at the risk of showing my ignorance, I ask the following: Besides the obvious engine difference, any significant differences between the 231, 252, and 262? I've heard "the 252 and 262 fixed some of the 231 issues". Like what?? Is it worth the money???
Carusoam...that's good to know! I do believe if it's the "right" plane, it'll happen but I'm in no rush. If Reconmax is another buyer, then the plane will find the right owner at the right time...
I'm looking to buy a 231 from jonesboro, AR, but I'm trying to find a neutral mechanic around there...or even memphis, TN...but mooney smart. Anyone have a recommendation?
