  1. Thats why I love my gumball. It is not too bright but bright enough for ground ops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I do have a free one: it’s even installed! I just want it to last FOREVER- because I love it so much. And so do my passengers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. No gps. Still love the gumball. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I’ve got strobes too. Still love gumball machine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I love the old thing, the way it turns and the cute red light. No, I don’t want to switch it to an LED. I’d like to get any information there is on overhauling it, specifically the motor which works but sounds a bit grindy. Thanks in advance Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I think the M 20 S Eagle looks like a great plane, anybody care to discuss it? I know seems like a broad, ridiculous question, but I was interested in fuel burns and speeds of what people are seeing. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Hello! I have had a C model for about five years. She's been great, and last year we flew her 85 hours, with 100% dispatch. I can't say enough good things about her. Unfortunately, our family has grown over the years to where we now have four dogs, three of which are pretty large (huskies). The fourth is a 20 pounder and can sit in a lap. When we had one, two and even three, we were able to fly our plane with them on trips, which we really enjoyed. They even have earmuffs and earplugs! Well, to make a long story short, now with the fourth rescue dog, we have outsized the old C, and my wife is going crazy, she misses traveling with them. She is sort of stuck on the idea of a Piper Lance, and I REAAALLLY am trying to stay in a mooney. I am thinking if I could remove back seats of a long body (question number 1), maybe we can make it work. We are 615 pounds (with 100# of bags), so I think a useful load of 1000 or more would work out for us. I have been trying to see pictures of the interior rear area of a long body mooney, and it seems like an Eagle might be a good fit for us, as we won't be doing any high altitude stuff with dogs, and our trips are typically no higher than 10k, as we fly in Eastern U.S. Love to get some feedback. The Lance numbers really are horrible with fuel burns and speed. I think a long body would be the right fit, just not sure about rear area sizing. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Thank you everyone. I did exactly what you all recommended: removed battery box- easy to remove mag. Yes, the two bolts are different that go I to firewall! I marked them. Now 18 business day wait for mags back. Grounded. Can’t wait - it’s been about 50” hours and FOURTEEN years since last overhaul! I actually have condensers on my mags to suppress radio static. Guy at Montana Mags told me those were supposed to removed years ago! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hello Mooney, sports fans, here’s my question, I am taking my magnetos off to send out for a pre-annual magneto overhaul. I got the right went off without too much fuss. However, the left one seems to be blocked in by the oil filter or battery. I can’t figure out how to take out the battery box. It looks like it might be into the Kevin firewall. Which leaves me the only option to remove the oil filter, do you all concur with this theory? Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. All were ovals. I have replaced with new. I think the last time they were new was over 20 years ago and over 500 hours. I wish I had done it when I purchased plane in 2018. Plugs were cheaper then!
  11. Thanks Hank! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks y’all. I have all those tools -I was just looking for the number. I’ll check tomorrow I think it’s .16. I have it at hangar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I replaced my old starter on my 65 C a few years ago with a new skytec - I’ve been happy with it. I think it was 400 bucks at time. Probably more now. Check flywheel for missing teeth. Hopefully it’s ok. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I just purchased my first set of spark plugs since I purchased plane six years ago. Electrodes we’re oval shaped and I decided it was time. Where do I go for gapping number? Can’t recall. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thank you everyone for your help I ended up doing just like most of you said, put it on an old tire inside the bed. It fit perfectly no problems. Wrap the blades with cardboard and the hub with a plastic bag. It’s now sitting in the shop. Hopefully the overhaul is fairly straightforward. I’ll send pictures. Thanks again. 16. This is the other side of the crankshaft flange. Some of the corrosion is surface but I’m not sure about this part of the crankshaft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I’m taking my prop to shop for overhaul. What best way to transport it? They said to cover blades with cardboard but is laying at an angle in my truck the right thing? I think laying flat would be best. Any suggestions? Thanks! Also check out sludgey oil! Should I clean that out with something more than a rag? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I have one that is bad. I want to replace it. Do I order one or whole set for my next annual? Kelly, Champion or Maggie? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Planning my next annual inspection in a few months, and one of my suggestions I received last year was that I need to replace the brake hydraulic lines on the landing gear. Anyone have any good recommendations on a source for these? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I’d like to see her exterior pics! I own 5553Q, pretty close! 2965 serial number, so ten numbers down! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I’ve got a C you’re welcome to shove your family into as a test. I’m near Dayton KSGH Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Correct on all accounts… *sigh Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Bolts in picture are to 0-360-A1D measured to be 1/4 inch. Standard torque table shows 96-106 inch pounds. If that’s the case, they ARE loose! My wrench does foot pounds which would equate to 8-8.83 foot pounds. Feel free to check my math. Am I looking at this correctly? Thanks!
  24. I’m relocating to SC and would like to find a good IA for my 1965 C model. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Tough recording to listen to. There are many questions I have about the flight and accident, about the pilot and his experience. However for now, I feel for the families. In the air carrier world, we have a lot of support mechanisms, union support for families, company support, government agencies, and very large peer groups for emotional support. All of these assist family and survivors in coping with questions afterwards. General aviation is different. You’re typically alone, single pilot, you have no large support network, only people on sidelines quarterbacking or civilians who don’t understand aviation. We fly older planes with, in my case, very dated avionics and no autopilot. My training regimen is self designed, there are no maintenance techs checking over plane when I’m at the hotel, no dispatcher verifying I can get through weather, no one monitoring my flight unless I ask or file IFR. Let’s all remember we ain’t supermen, we aren’t flying missions to save lives, we can always drive or buy a ticket, or go the next day when the sun is shining. My heart goes out to the families.
