  1. Interesting. I believe it is secured to the engine mount. The cross bar that activates the cowl flaps I think. And @M20Doc I'll have a look at that too
  2. Minor update. On the post maintenance run-up, we discovered that with the engine in the correct position, the mixture would no longer go to ICO. The lever hit the sheath on the mixture cable (ran out of travel) about a 1/4" short. Seems counterintuitive that the bottom of the engine being farther forward would have this result, but it did!
  3. For reference if you don't know, this it what they look like new.
  4. When I bought my plane, I took it to a place with what I thought had a good reputation. I told them "leave no stone unturned". Basically gave them an open checkbook. I've detailed here before the shoddy work done (if it was done at all). Today, I found more. They logged in my books (and charged me for) shimming the engine up. I've noticed recently that it seemed to be sagging more. I looked through the logs and couldn't find that new engine mounts had been installed since overhaul in 1989. Sorta surprised they didn't change them when they had the engine off for what was basically an IRAN in 2012, but whatever. They did note it was shimmed when reinstalled. Since it was shimmed in 2012 and ostensibly again in September 2017, I figured it was time to go ahead and replace the mounts. Well, I seriously have my doubts that they were shimmed in 2017. Why? Well, first of all, there was only one 1/16" shim on each lower mount. Further they were full shims, only able to be installed by completely removing the engine mounts. If you've ever done the lower mounts on a Mooney C model, you know how much work it is. If 2 years ago they removed the mounts entirely, when they had an open checkbook, why would they reinstall mounts with a cure date of 5/1988..... 31 years old. And, in my estimation, there's not a chance in heck they looked fine then and look like this now....... Both lower mounts looked like that. At any rate, I'm really happy it's done, and my spinner lines up great now!
  5. The Comanche guy said they'd already negotiated airside access with Ed Faron.
  6. Aircrafty .. They're talking to your neighbor with the Comanche. All said and done, he would "profit" about $35 an hour.
  7. Unless you can figure out how to get out without crossing the ADIZ, no lol
  8. Unless it's over 30 years old. Then you can keep 2" numbers.
  9. They're ok, their animals are ok. Don is posting about it over on Facebook.
  10. Yes Don Maxwell. Not sure if they need anything at this point, but thought I'd engage mooneyspace just in case
  11. It's complete. I have a picture of it flying with that setup. Literally in flight. But the tail number is visible so I didn't post it
  12. I've noticed the #3 EGT has been a little higher than the average. Maybe 80-100 degrees F than #4 while they used to be very close to the same. I've also noticed that my manifold pressure needle has gotten a little "shaky". Not big variations, just shaky. I just had the whole plane decowled (even the bottom cowl!) For a starter swap and didn't note any irregularities. Thoughts?
  13. I'm currently showing raw horse power, but I want to show percent horsepower. How do I go back??
  14. Yup, that's why mine is set up the way it is
  15. It's awesome! Yes, a new probe installed under the wing. Don't buy the Garmin probe. They want like $400 for it. The GAD13 (little control box) is about $140 and a Davtron C307PS probe is about $75. The Davtron probe is called out as acceptable in the installation manual. The GAD13 is tiny. You could fit one in the little pocket on the front of your jeans. I get TAS and OAT displayed on the top G5. The HSI gets wind direction and velocity. You can have it displayed with a little arrow showing direction or displayed as headwind/tailwind-crosswind component. Also, since the airdata is shared with the 430W I also get a wind display on that.
  16. Technically I don't think it's a kollsman window, that's what I my CFI called it because you adjust for barometric pressure. Like the "real" kollsman window on your altimeter.
  17. No, the ground speed is knots. Says it right there
  18. GS isn't a required indication. The G5 has to display airspeed in MPH because that's how all the airspeed limitations are set in the owners manual. I could have GS display in mph but I prefer it in knots because all approaches are timed by knots, not MPH
  19. I've owned my Mooney for just about 2.5 years. I've logged 600 hours flying her around. My ASI has a kollsman window, and I would always adjust it for TAS. No matter what, I would always see about 145-155 mph true. That always seemed a little slow to me, but you know, it is what it is. Last week, I had the new Garmin OAT interface installed. This shows TAS on the G5. Wouldn't you know, the G5 displayed the true always thought my plane should be doing. 165ish MPH. So, I figured my mechanical ASI was just off. I mean indicated always matched indicated on the G5, so I guessed the kollsman window just didn't work right. Until today. I don't know why, but I finally figured it out. Did you know the left side of the kollsman window is for temps above 0c and the right side is for temps below 0c? I've been doing it wrong, I guess because in my head, 0c would be in the middle so above would be on the right and below would be on the left.... For almost 3 years, I've been adjusting my ASI to the wrong side.
  20. @oregon87 or anyone else who might now, I programmed the horsepower, but now it seems to show actual horsepower rather than a percentage. I believe this is correct, but I’d like to back to percentage horsepower rather than raw. How do I do that?
  21. Huge thanks to EI! They turned it around in under a week. Works great now! Pretty neat that it feeds real-time data to the 430W and gives all kinds of useful info Thanks a ton @oregon87
  22. Where are you sending it?
  23. I can see what your problem was. Your engine clearly didn’t leak enough oil.
  24. I was telling him the same thing. Also yesterday lol. Him and Heather came by the shop
