  1. My V band clamp broke at the spot weld the very next flight after turbo R&R. Had it not been safety-wired, I wouldn’t be writing this. These things are not to be trifled with. Note: I went back to naturally aspirated shortly after that.
  2. Thank you. A good idea. RC
  3. Not at the moment. The airplane (1983 J model) came with the 496 on the yoke and hard-wired. Thanks for the feedback.
  4. Anyone have a recommendation for a Ram Ipad (mini)? I have a nifty 496 on the yoke and would like to keep it. Therefore, I would use a Ram mount with suction cups on the side window. Bad idea? Thanks
  5. Turbo flyers: do yourself a favor and replace the V band clamps rather than reuse. My turbo was overhauled not long ago. The genius that reinstalled it used the 40 year old v band clamps that had been re-torqued countless times. Right on schedule, one v band clamp failed at the spot weld soon afterward. Had it not been for safety wire, I’d be a crispy critter.
  6. Anyone had tanks repaired at Don Maxwell’s? If so, how was your experience? Cost? Thanks
  7. Has anyone else noticed that car gas is under $2 and oil is under $20 a barrel yet 100LL hasn’t budged off of $4-7 a gallon? You would think that even adding in the refining premium built into avgas that the price would drop some. Any thoughts out there in the ether?
  8. Don’t do it. Find yourself a well maintained 201. I’ve owned my 231 for 16 years and have replaced practically every part on the plane, some parts multiple times. It’s been a maintenance nightmare.
  9. You full stall advocates are nuts.
  10. Anyone know where to get the little button that goes on the map light switch on the yoke? M20K...
  11. My 231 used to die like that at idle. Changed the fuel pump at last tear down. Never happened again.
  12. Send it to Precise Flight. Plan on getting hosed for big money in the process. You can't fix it yourself.
  13. I plan to. My homeport is KGPM, five minutes away.
  14. Stop in at Avionics First at RBD while there. Just had them rip out 32 pounds of old radios and replace with Garmin including ADS-B. Now twenty one pounds lighter and a few knots faster from getting rid of three external antennas I didn’t need any more. Richie the C
  15. Greetings, I am interested in the air filter. In the picture, it looks round. Mine is flat. Could it be rolled up in the picture. Thanks, Rich
